Commentators have been blaming Capitalism and the Republicans for America’s economic woes. Well, I’ll agree that one of those accused is PARTLY to blame for America’s woes. It ain’t Capitalism.
Cronyism by Republicans and Democrats is to blame.
What continues to surprise me today, are the self described “liberals” in the Democrat party that still blame Capitalism and point the finger at the Bush, years after he has been out of office, for America’s woes. Really?
Consider this hypothetical:
- Mom “Tommy, why did you steal the candybar from the store?”
- Tommy “Johnny stole some gum yesterday”
- Mom “What?”
- Tommy “Don’t worry about it Mom. Johnny didn’t get in trouble, its no big deal”
This attitude that “I can do whatever “is wrong”" because someone else did it before, and got away with it, dumbfounds me. Anyone else?
- I’m even more amazed others will stand by “a wrong” and say “SEE”.
- ”See what” I say?
- “Bush did it, or Clinton did it, or Bush did it, or Reagan did it, or Carter did it.”
- “What?” I ask. 2 wrongs now make a right? Really? You must be joking !
Our Leaders in Washington ARE NOT joking!
WHEN ONE PERSON JUSTIFIES THEIR ACTIONS BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE DID IT, IT IS STILL WRONG.

Forbes published an article ” The Unholy Marriage of GE and President Obama at the Altar of Industrial Policy.
The angry Left has been calling for President Obama to fire Jeffrey Immelt from his position as head of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. I think that would be a good idea, but for different reasons.
GE Chairman and CEO as unfit to advise the president because his company invests some of its resources abroad and, despite worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, paid no taxes in 2010. No illegalities are alleged, mind you; GE—like every other U.S. multinational—responds to incentives, including those resulting from tax policy and regulations concocted in Washington.
End of my agreement, but let us read on to see what else GE and O are doing together with America’s tax dollars:
But there are more substantive reasons Mr. Immelt is unfit to advise the president. In particular, GE is a major player in several industries that President Obama has been promoting as part of his administration’scocksure embrace of industrial policy.
…yesterday GE announced plans to open the largest solar panel production facility in the United States, which nicely complements its role as the largest U.S. producer of wind turbines (and one of the largest in the world).
Tim Carney gave his impressions of this budding relationship between GE and the Obama administration in the DC Examinerlast July :
First, there’s the policy overlap: Obama wants cap-and-trade, GE wants cap-and-trade. Obama subsidizes embryonic stem-cell research, GE launches an embryonic stem-cell business. Obama calls for rail subsidies, GE hires Linda Daschle [wife of former South Dakota Senator and Obama confidante Tom Dachle] as a rail lobbyist. Obama gives a speeeh, GE employee Chris Matthews feels a thrill up his leg. I could go on.
And Carney does go on in a December 2009 Examiner piece:
Look at any major Obama policy initiative — healthcare reform, climate-change regulation, embryonic stem-cell research, infrastructure stimulus, electrical transmission smart-grids — and you’ll find GE has set up shop, angling for a way to pocket government handouts, gain business through mandates, or profit from government regulation.

Is there anyone reading this that has not heard the concept of:
“EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW” ?
I submit to you these are some of the words that were the genesis for this concept.
What an amazing concept ! How can anyone argue the CORRECTNESS, RIGHTNESS, TRUTHFULNESS of the concept? The concept of, regardless of gender, race, color, creed, or station in society, OUR LAW is to APPLY to EVERYONE in the SAME WAY, equally, blindly on the facts.
Look at the picture of LADY LIBERTY above. WHY is she BLINDFOLDED? The blindfold denotes “blind justice” or blind application of the law to all.
What America has now is a system where, if you are big enough, special enough, in the “elite” group, then you WILL get special treatment. Treatment all the rest of Americans WILL NOT get. Tax breaks, loopholes, government largesse for windmills, or solar panels, or building factories in China, etc.
I don’t care if the company is IBM, or Halliburton, or GE, or minority owned, or veteran owned, or female owned.
What happened to, who can do the job the most EFFECTIVELY, EFFICIENTLY, AND INEXPENSIVELY?
What happened to the level playing field where everyone plays by the same set of rules?
Federally: giving tax breaks to special interests or companies, or giving monies seized from others, to allow corporations, or unions, or some city or county or state to do things that benefit ONLY themselves, and NOT ALL AMERICANS equally, is WRONG. Special gifts or perks for special groups or people IS NOT equal protection under the law. It is illegal (ie. Unconstitutional) in truth.
When are Americans going to admit these INEQUALITIES and INEQUITIES and demand Truth, Justice, and Equal Treatment Under OUR LAWS for all Americans? When?


I see no way to completely eliminate cronyism, all we can do is try, and make examples of the ones who get caught. Good post

BOTH parties are guilty of cronyism.
If “We” the American people decided our priorities were about, what’s best for America, instead of “what’s best for ME”, that would be a good starting place.
I shall continue to believe there are more GOOD Americans, than SELFISH Americans. I shall continue to have HOPE for ALL of us.

So so true. I agree 100%. I’m ready to start. Can we start with fiscal conservatism? Something simple like not spending more than what we have?

Lets start by giving Americanism an accurate label: 20 years ago I labeled it: “Thomas Jeffersonianism”, or as B calls it: “Classical Liberalism” or we could just call it “Americanism”.
