Katrina Revisted — Obama Style

Just a thought for our friends on the Left who took the opportunity of the Katrina disaster to bash Bush:

Do you remember how you pointed your fingers of criticism and thumped your chest self-righteously, saying that “your side” could have and would have done better? Well, I would appreciate it if those of us on the Right would never have to hear your self-righteous hypocrisy again, thank you:

From the Drudge Report

Obama Ignores Question About Storm Victims’ Frustrations…
Fear of the Dark…
Con Edison Distributing Dry Ice…
FEMA Out Of Water, No Delivery Until Monday…
FREE FUEL FOR EVERYONE!
2-mile line on Staten Island…
CONFUSION: Gov’t tells public to stay away until first responders fuel up…
Residents arm up: Bats, machetes, shotguns…
‘It’s Like The Wild West’…
‘Anarchy in Queens’…
ODD-EVEN: NJ counties enact Carter-style gas rationing…
DICK MORRIS: Obama Hit By Storm Backlash…

It would seem — in spite of his having claimed he could have done better — when it comes right down to it, Obama is no better at handling a natural disaster than Bush was and, perhaps, actually worse.

You cannot pretend to hold the moral high ground when you are — at best — no better than those you are criticizing/attacking — especially when you have to partially distort the truth to make your case in the first place.  Maybe, if our friends on the Left truly want to foster a coming together, then just maybe they will start to look to the planks in their own eyes first.  After all, I’m only asking for “fairness.” :-(

  1. And yet everyone from future presidential hopeful and Romney covention speaker Chris Christie to former republcian turned independent Bloomberg have had nothing but praise for Obamas handling, and FEMA’s response.

Have there been problems? of course- not least of which is crippled infrastructure to get supplies in. (and has Boehner or ANYONE in the GOP led house moved to fund or otherwise authorize relief beyond what FEMA is allowed to do?)

ah yes- but the evil federal government shuld be able to make everything better…overnight no less.

And to be fair here- let’s maybe point out that Bushs politcal appointee to head FEMA, who had no experience with disasters, and created a mess of not only Katrina, but the FL hurricanes the previous year, the buffalo snowtorms the following year, and the arkansas tornadoes and ca wildfires the year after that (whew!) led to requirements that the head of FEMA actually *gasp* have experience with disasters…

And let’s not even go down the road of Bush taking away FEMA’s independent status and rolling it under “Homeland Security”

    • I’m sure you must have overlooked my post, comrade – here’s a little excerpt for you:

It just disgusts me to compare what the media did to Bush in the wake of Katrina and how they are handling Obama with kid gloves. They are giving a complete pass to Obama on this. Katrina was a Cat 5 and Sandy a Cat 1. New Orleans in a largely rural, sparsely populated region and is 5 hours away from the nearest similar metropolitan area (Houston) where significant help could have been staged. Being at the intersection of only two Interstate highways, I-10 and I-55 made it logistically difficult to even get the staged assistance there. Compare a google map of New Orleans to that of the NY/NJ area. You will find that New York is less than 4 hours away from the nation’s capital in Washington, located in the hub of the Northeast, 2 hours from Philadelphia and 3 from Baltimore and yet it is reported that FEMA has already run out of potable water.

This is the best example of the passive aggressive bias exhibited by the media this entire campaign. Anything that is negative or could hurt Obama just gets overlooked or buried on page C-38.

But that’s OK, New York is a safe Democrat haven and those electoral votes are going to go to Obama no matter what. There’s no political advantage to be lost by letting people starve as long as they are white, blue collar and don’t live in Manhattan.

And Bloomberg was a Democrat until 2001 when he wanted to run for mayor and couldn’t get nominated as one. Bloomie has always been a RINO.

House authorizing more aid beyond what FEMA is allowed to do? Has FEMA or Obama asked for additional aid? Hell, Bloomberg wont even let the National Guard in Brooklyn because they carry guns:

Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.

“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Markowitz demanded the National Guard’s help just an hour before Bloomberg’s press conference, claiming that the NYPD and FDNY are “brave — but overwhelmed” by all the challenges Sandy brought when it visited the borough on Monday night: flooding, power outages, and looting.

    • You are wrong about Brown’s handling of the disasters. He truly did a good job ion Florida. And between then and Katrina, FEMA became part of the Homeland Security bureaucracy, and he did not have the absolute authority that he enjoyed in Florida.
