Thanks to Michael Walsh at The Corner:
As we approach the end of our orgy of poll-watching, let’s step back and look at what this election really is all about. Will the country vote to reelect a man who was manifestly unqualified for the highest office in the land in 2008, and who has done absolutely nothing over the past four years to indicate that he’s learned anything on the job? Or will it replace him with a man who’s probably the most qualified to handle the economic calamity that has befallen us in part thanks to the policies of the current administration?
Despite the president’s best efforts, this election must and will be a referendum on the incumbent, and with Mitt Romney having passed the plausibility test via the debates, the choice will .not be between Barack Obama and Romney but between the threat or promise of more Obama vs. the reality of first-term Obama. Last time out, the country took a national flyer on the freshman senator from Illinois, for which it’s paid handsomely with high unemployment, trillion-dollar deficits, a debased currency, and the shame of Benghazi, which will have repercussions well into any second Obama term. This time, it’s not a flier; it’s a suicide mission.

You are still equating democrat with liberal, although that is not a surprise, since, by the standards set in here, Eisenhower was a socialist.
Bullshit. When did any of these “non-liberal” Democrats propose a conservative policy, program or law that the Republicans voted against? Your arguments that 1) Democrats are not liberals and 2) they don’t vote monolithically for liberal policies and programs are not supported by the facts.
There is no such thing as the “Liberal Party”.
These days, You don’t have to be a Democrat to be a liberal but you do have to be a liberal to be a Democrat, at least in the Senate.
Just ask Joe Lieberman.
“There is no such thing as the “Liberal Party”.”
Exactly. The Democratic party is the “big tent” umbrella for all of the various liberal agendas. Do we need to list them all for you Greg?
@Augger,
Greg shouldn’t be so fast. His political heroes (the ones he instinctively defends: Hillary, Obama, etc) have all said they are Progressives over the past few years, and Progressives ARE liberals in the worse sense of the word, and these same people ARE the leaders of their Party: hence, the Democrat Party IS liberal per the people who run it.
Once again, not only is Greg wrong, but his own champions are the ones who have said so (this happens to Greg quite often, so maybe we should take pity on him?)
Of course, they were forced to change names back again to “Progressives” after the 1980’s, because Reagan exposed them as socialists trying to make socialism acceptable by calling themselves liberal. Following that exposure by Reagan, Hilary Clinton then admitted to preferring the name Progressive.
As far as pity for Greg … only if he really is a dolt. If not, he’s just another disingenuous poster defending an ideology that is nonsensical.
If all Democrats were liberal, we would have universal health care. That’s a fact you can take to the bank.
Gee, perhaps that’s why Obamcare was passed on a party line vote with the few Democrats who voted against it voting AFTER the reconciliation bill had enough House votes to pass. I know, I watched the voting as it happened.
Democrats are liberal, the country is not.
the country id divided, Utah
Greg,
Unless Obamacare is repealed, they already made sure that this is what we will have. It’ll just take a few more years. After all, they are “progressives,” and this is how they work: drip by drip.
So your assertion does not hold — again.
Your lame predictions don’t negate my point. They had the votes, if they were all liberal, if they had all wanted single-payer coverage, we’d have it, with no need for it to creep up on us.
See, this is why I have a problem with you. It is not my “lame predictions,” it is going to be the intentional result of the bill. It was designed to destroy private insurance, leaving only one option — the government.
This is there for the knowing. All you have to do is read the bill instead of listening to your liberal handlers. Greg, they lie. They have been caught in their lies so often now that even children are coming to understand the media is the functional equivalent of Pravda West. And the Democrat Party and the media are one in the same, so they can’t be trusted any more than the media — less even. Yet, for whatever reason, you still take their word about what they’ve done over the actual record of what they have done.
Sad…
In the modern political landscape, Democrat DOES = LIBERAL. Anyone who may not think themselves liberal who still stays in and votes for the Democrats is lending their support to the most obviously liberal/progressive agenda the nation has seen since the earth 20th Century, thereby making them liberal whether they like it or not.
Is there a conservative Democrat? Is the Pope Lutheran?
