Welcome to Obama’s America

Joe’s post referencing Dickens: Echoes of Collapses Past: Obama’s Coming Dickens Tale reminded me of this from October 11th of last year.

It is a place of the Victorian despair of a Dickens novel, a place of concordant plenty and deprivation, of the illogic of an Alice in Wonderland landscape, where up is down, good is evil and the laws of physics don’t apply. This is the political world where there are no objective truths and where new “realities” are created and discarded as easily as free sandwiches disappear in Zuccotti Park.

By the way, the collectivist beneficiaries of free stuff at #Occupy[iwantfreestuff] in Zuccotti Hippie Central are miffed that non-demonstrators are taking their free stuff:

Meanwhile, the protesters are starting to notice folks taking advantage of the demonstration by grabbing some of the free food and clothes that have been made available in Zuccotti Park.

“The tourists take all the food, and the hipsters take all the clothes,” said one demonstrator.

I thought that everything was supposed to be for everybody in this collectivist paradise? What, no peace, love and harmony? No bombs or dead cops? No rioting and wanton destruction?

Damn.

Bill Ayers, Bernadette Dohrn and the rest of the 60′s just called and they want their demonstration back – you amateurs are embarrassing them.

But I digress…

It is time to take a step back from the micro view of the #Occupy[yournamehere] protests and draw some macro conclusions about how this individual event is being woven into the tapestry of Marxist hypocrisy, a hypocrisy  that is supported by the Obama administration and Democrats in Washington.

President “Wink and a Nod” has given is tacit approval to the protests. The Worker’s World Party has expressed “solidarity”. The usual suspects of the aggrieved parties, Al Sharpton, Dick Gregory and Jesse Jackson have opined. “Notables”, like actors/musicians Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Russell Simmons and Kanye West (who shows up at the park in gold chains and a $365 Givenchy shirt – you can’t make this crap up, it basically writes itself) have signed on. Big Leftist Media is providing PR. The DNC has signed on, along with various politicians – Charlie Rangel and Nancy Pelosi among them.

To preface my points, I submit this, a quote of F.A. Hayek from The Road to Serfdom (pp 158-159):

Even the striving for equality by means of a directed economy can result only in an officially enforced inequality – an authoritarian determination of the status of each individual in the new hierarchical order.

If one is left to rational and unbiased observation to deduce the “meta” theme of the #Occupy[yournamehere] protests, the sum total of their grievances would seem to be resolved by the very forced equality of which Hayek speaks, this dictatorship of the proletariat. Isn’t that really the basis of their “demands”?

This is also the central theme of the Obama Administration to the expressed ideas of:

…I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money…

and,

I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.

[and to add to those oldies but goodies, Obama said in his presser yesterday (11/14/2012) that: “A modest tax increase on the wealthy is not going to break their backs…They’ll still be wealthy.”]

As much as the Democrats and the “progressives” claimed that these quotes of Obama were taken out of context at the time, the three years of his presidency have proven their clear, concise and bone chilling accuracy and honesty. The “progressive” movement screeches with anger when the parallels are drawn between socialism, Marxism and communism. They are defiant in their disagreement that they can be any of these things, that they are “Americans!” just like you and me.

Ladies and gentlemen, they are not like you and me. They are fools.

They are openly campaigning for a collectivist state, one where they think that they will have the “power” – again, the dictatorship of the proletariat (a Marxist concept). They decry the control of “Big Everything” (corporations, Pharma, Insurance, Healthcare), yet they seek the contradictory ends of ceding control to Big Government while attempting to achieve it via anarchy.

These proto-communists claim democracy because in their general assemblies, they vote. I have news for these useful idiots; there are votes in communist regimes as well. There were elections in the old Soviet Union but somehow, the same government officials always won.

Democracy does not equal freedom. Tyranny can be placed on a ballot. Totalitarianism can be instituted with a majority vote.

In direct agreement with Hayek’s observation, there is always “an authoritarian determination of the status of each individual in the new hierarchical order” – that power being vested in some government function.

It is at this point that freedom and truth die.

These “progressives”, anarchists and proto-communists are willingly rushing headlong to their doom. I would not mind as I have a libertarian streak in me and their choice is their choice, but they are taking the country along with them.

Nancy Pelosi was once referred to as “the most powerful woman” in Washington. Even with the electoral defeat that they Democrats suffered in the House in 2010, she still is quite powerful in shaping the “progressive” agenda. She also offers the most current illustration of the logical conundrum that the #O[ynh] crowd faces as they struggle to find a footing and legitimacy, a least enough to be defined as a “movement”.

Pelosi has offered her support for the #O[ynh] protests:

“I support the message to the establishment, whether it’s Wall Street or the political establishment and the rest, that change has to happen,” said Pelosi in an exclusive interview with ABC News “This Week” anchor Christiane Amanpour. “We cannot continue in a way this is not relevant to their lives.”

Yet as a member of the Democrat Politburo, Pelosi enriches herself via her husband in the very type of corporatist, crony capitalism, back room deal that the #O[ynh] groups are protesting:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s husband, a real estate developer and investment banker, stands to make millions of dollars in a previously undisclosed residential real estate project in California as a partner with the father of a woman Mrs. Pelosi helped become ambassador to Hungary, records show.

But a government watchdog said that even if it was not legally required, Mrs. Pelosi should have voluntarily disclosed the Russell Ranch investment earlier, at least by the time she was helping Mrs. Tsakopoulos-Kounalakis become an ambassador in November 2009. Mrs. Pelosi promised upon her election as House speaker in 2007 to lead “the most honest, most open, most ethical Congress in history.”

This is the kind of logical inconsistency that must be tolerated today in order to be a modern “progressive”, a “man/woman of the people” as it were. This is the sort of pretzel logic that must be internalized to be part of this ideology.

Referring once again to Hayek’s book and a chapter titled “Why the Worst Get on Top”:

Since it is the supreme leader who alone determines the ends, his instruments must have no moral convictions of their own. They must, above all, be unreservedly committed to the person of the leader; but next to this the most important thing is that they should be completely unprincipled and literally capable of everything. They must have no ideals of their own which they want to realize; no ideas about right or wrong which might interfere with the intentions of the leader.

There is thus in the positions of power little to attract those who hold moral beliefs of the kind which in the past have guided the European peoples, little which could compensate for the distastefulness of many of the particular tasks, and little opportunity to gratify any more idealistic desires, to recompense for the undeniable risk, the sacrifice of most of the pleasures of private life and of personal independence which the posts of great responsibility involve.

The only tastes which are satisfied are the taste for power as such and the pleasure of being obeyed and of being part of a well-functioning and immensely powerful machine to which everything else must give way.

Former Soviet premier, Nikita Khrushchev remarked in a speech in Yugoslavia,

“I once said, ‘We will bury you,’ and I got into trouble with it. Of course we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you,”

This, of course a reference to the Marxist saying, “The proletariat is the undertaker of capitalism”, paraphrased from Marx’s Communist Manifesto:

“What the bourgeoisie therefore produces, above all, are its own grave-diggers. Its fall and the victory of the proletariat are equally inevitable”.

To those that seek to wrest the power in society from businesses (enterprises that can be destroyed if they do not follow social and moral rules) and vest it in a permanent government that, once entrenched, cannot be easily corrected, you would do well to heed Hayek’s admonition and understand the mechanisms of “revolution” espoused by Khrushchev and chronicled by Marx.

Our Republic IS messy but…there is no better system of self correction than the governmental constraints imposed by a strong and limiting constitution in conjunction with with free elections in a representative Republic.

There is no better system than America.

This is NOT a “velvet revolution”. The undertones are far more dire and the consequences far more deadly. I actually pity the #O[ynh] folks and the other fellow travelers of Obama’s America. Our educational system has so desensitized them to the degree that they are nothing but clueless dupes, sheep being led to slaughter while singing “Kumbaya” and hugging each other in congratulation for their “egalitarianism” and “fairness”

“The only tastes which are satisfied are the taste for power as such and the pleasure of being obeyed and of being part of a well-functioning and immensely powerful machine to which everything else must give way.”

Welcome to Obama’s America.

Will the lilting melody of “We Shall Overcome” still be sweet upon the ears of the #O[ynh]ers even as their new “progressive” masters slit their throats?

Not if I have anything to say about it…

Bob Belvedere is every bit as pissed off about this as I am.

  2. Look at the bright side: The beauty part of being in Wonderland has opened many eyes. I think people are waking up and starting to fear the Jabberwocky.

  3. I think of my son,who was involuntarily indoctrinated in college. Now that he’s working, he’s not chasing rabbits.

You know what’s really scary? Some of these cartoons these days. I have a younger son and I’m quite familiar with several cartoons. I love them, but I sense subtle messages.

Maybe I am turning into a conpiracy theorist :0 (insert psycho stabbing music)

Only the vast majority of their supporters.

O and his “Democrats”, “KNOW WHAT THEY DO!”

Question, are we going to allow them their way?
