Rand Paul Adopts “Let It Burn”

Better to crash quickly so the healing can start.

Via Real Clear Politics (video there):

SEN. RAND PAUL: I have yet another thought on how we can fix this. Why don’t we let the Democrats pass whatever they want? If they are the party of higher taxes, all the Republicans vote present and let the Democrats raise taxes as high as they want to raise them, let Democrats in the Senate raise taxes, let the president sign it and then make them own the tax increase. And when the economy stalls, when the economy sputters, when people lose their jobs, they know which party to blame, the party of high taxes. Let’s don’t be the party of just almost as high taxes.

LARRY KUDLOW, CNBC: Some people have called that the doomsday scenario. Others have said, ‘Look, it’s a strategic retreat on the Republicans’ behalf.’ WWould you vote present for that in the Senate if that came up?

RAND PAUL: Yes, I don’t think we have to in the Senate. In the House, they have to because the Democrats don’t have the majority. In the Senate, I’m happy not to filibuster it, and I will announce tonight on your show that I will work with Harry Reid to let him pass his big old tax hike with a simple majority if that’s what Harry Reid wants, because then they will become the party of high taxes and they can own it.

  1. This statement from Rand Paul just proves that we are completely leaderless as Conservatives (Jeffersonian Liberals).

If THIS is what passes for strategy from one of our supposed Constitutional Conervatives, then we are Truely on our own in the trenches.

What the Hello is all this talk of “Strategic Retreat”…..once rates go up they NEVER EVER come down….and The Democrats Socialists will use the economic decline as proof of THEIR strategy of blameing the GOP and Bush for the failure….the Press will use the decline to foster even MORE hatred of the Producer Class……..The GOP leadership is totally inept….Palin is correct ( they’re wusses )………JUST STAND YOUR GROUND….Defund the Democrat bills….follow the Constitution for God’s sake, that’s why we voted for you in the first place !!!!!

Republicans doing exactly what the Democrats want…..The Producer Class is completely without representation in the Congress……Truely Taxation without Representation.

  2. Ummm. Maybe and maybe not. It is one of the better strategies anyone has voiced. Taxes do tend to go up or down depending on who is in office, and Republicans will not get the deal that we want – no chance. We would again be in the lesser of 2 evils arena, which is not going to give us any real gains. If Republicans stop funding, we will be blamed til doomsday for the repercussions. The fact that Newt spearheaded that type of thing doesn’t mean it would be the best idea for today. Newt is a bit too cockeyed anyway. Remember Newt is also the House Speaker who ramrodded the Expanded CRA through the House under Clinton, the infamous bill that mandated banks to make loans to under-qualified borrowers, fining tham if any discrimination could be found.

  3. Capitulation and Surrender are not strategies. They are Capitulation and surrender.

We (Republicans) will be blamed no matter what…..THAT is the lesson.
If We (Conservatives) constantly talk in terms of “Political Expediency” and play the Liberal-Democrat word games instead of following the True Law of the Land…ie, the Constitution…..we will NEVER gain anything because they have defined the game….we are playing their game with their rules.

The Tea Party was a shot across the bow signalling a desire to return to the Constitution starting with Controlled Spending !!!

The Best course of action is not to repeat defeatist rhetoric which is just a verbal version of throwing one’s hands in the air. And you AW repeat the RINO talking points to the letter.

Doing what the opposition WANTS you to do is called not just losing….but being a loser.

    • I’m with Don on this one. You either fight for right or you stand for wrong. There is no middle ground.

This is what having principles is all about, and once you find yourself starting to compromise on those principles, you can know you’ve lost them (provided you ever really had them, that is).

  4. You all forget the real history of the world. As many of you were taught revisionist history. History will always be written, or re-written (lately), by the winners. If we chose to follow the “let it burn” mentality we face a huge gamble that reasonable conservatives will be back in charge one day. I personally do not think it is likely.
As the Demoncrats are in charge and the media supports their efforts. No matter what occurs the Republicans will be blamed. So I vote to fight!

  5. I’m still in favor of the untried solution that Rand Paul suggested. Nothing RINO about that at all, since we will ultimately be subjected to the Democrat’s plan in any case with only minor exceptions. We have never thrown up our hands before. No one has done that before. The shock value of that move may remain in people’s memories until the next election. In my opinion, it is just a creative way of fighting the battle. It is saying, okay you are going to do what you want anyway, we will just watch you stumble and fall. In case you haven’t seen the new Weiss predictions for 2013, all hell is predicted to break loose in the market, interest rates, gold prices, deflation then inflation. It looks like to me that Democrats might end up in a trap of their own making. Weiss is one of the financial ratings services. Remember when viewing this link that Bernanke pledged to keep interest rates low until mid 2015. Weiss doesn’t seem to believe that is going to happen.

    • There is EVERYTHING RINO about what you suggest.

Capitulation is NOT an “Untried Solution”….that is Double-talk for giving the Democrats what they want….just because you dress it up doesn’t mean it isn’t a Porgressive strategy…..just like Bush Spending like Democrats….RINO tactics = Democrat Tactics.

There is nothing “creative” there is nothing “fighting” about what you are sugesting….you just keep trying to Dress-up Surrender in new terms….and that’s about it.

Historically Tax rates went up after the Stock Market crash in the 1930s and didn’t come down again significantly until Kennedy lowered from 91% to 70% LOL ….30 YEARS !!! Then not again until Reagan in the 1980s….ANOTHER 20 YEARS !!!…..thus it took about Half a CENTURY until tax rates were reasonable again !!!!!!

      Yeah that’s a Real winning , “Creative”, Fighting”, “Untried Solution”……………..Failure Bigtime…for Generations !

  6. Yes, and when I know my team is going to lose, I like it when they just run the ball back to their own end-zone.

What makes Rand Paul or anyone think the Democrats will ever be satisfied? Give them what they want, and they will just demand more.

What makes Rand Paul think that the Democrats will get pinned with the blame for the mess they create? The Democrats would still most likely prevail in blaming Republicans and rich people and George Bush for everything that goes wrong from here.

I would expect this from Boehner, but Rand Paul?
