In fact, that is EXACTLY what “progressive” means: you “progress” toward totalitarianism a little bit at a time until — eventually — Americans wake up and find they live in a police State where martial law has been declared because “bad people are doing bad stuff:”
Why Is an Arkansas City Deploying Police With AR-15s to Demand Citizens Show I.D. on the Streets?
It doesn’t matter WHY the authorities say they need to do this, what matters is that this is not how a free and self-governing people live.
They get away with this stuff because we refuse to push back. We don’t push back — mostly — because we’re just plain scared. And as long as we cower in our corners, they will continue to “progress” toward tighter and tighter control of your life until — one day — you’ll find it is too late for any of us to fight back.

Apparently the citizens of Paragould have pushed back causing the police to change their statements. I hope they continue to push back in the upcoming townhall meetings referred to in the article, and the cops drop this whole deal. While police presence might deter some criminals and reduce crime in some areas, keeping a record of contacts made on the street just isn’t right, especially when you might be confronted with that information later, or it might get passed to someone else. If the cops want to increase their presence in these neighborhoods, they can ride through more often in their cruisers.
FC,
Agreed. Also, I chose the story as an example. As a society, we have been trained to look at the particulars of everything — “deciding” how we “feel” about things on a case-by-case basis. This is how you erode standards in a society and why I stress the principle in most every story I post — so that we can start training ourselves to judge the case-by-case against a set, unchanging standard of right/wrong
Best that you chose AR as an example. Wouldn’t happen in AZ…………….. I think I feel a game of “let’s pretend” coming on…..
Americans have been choosing Progressivism over liberty for over a century now. It’s long past time for freedom loving Americans to realize that the country they thought they lived in has been dead for many, many decades.
Charlie,
I agree: the nation is dead. HOWEVER, just as God always preserves a vestige of His people in every nation that turns away from Him, He has preserved a vestige of those who understand individual rights and liberty within our borders. And as long as we still live, there is still a chance to save man’s freedom.
