Why Progressive Governments will Never Stop Increasing Spending

This really shouldn’t need to be explained – not in a nation whose business was once business – but, sadly, it would appear that it does need to be explained. So, if the majority of the RNL audience will just indulge me as I cover some basic concepts they already understand, I will try to explain this to those who still do not.

Progressive governments will not stop increasing spending for one simple reason: control. If they stop spending, they lose their control over the State governments and the individual. What’s more, government is not immune from the same economic forces that govern business. In business, if you are not growing, you are shrinking. The same applies to government: if it is not growing, it is shrinking, and a shrinking government is a government that is losing its control. And that is why Progressive governments will never stop spending more and more money: because, if they stop, they lose control – and losing control means they lose their personal position and power.

Now, this control manifests itself in many ways. The federal government uses spending to control State governments by creating spending programs in the form of “entitlements” that the federal government knows full well the States cannot afford to fund. What then happens is the States are forced to chose between accepting government money and all the strings that come attached to it (i.e. federal control over the State), or the dissolution of the Union. This is actually the choice as, if the State refuses to accept the government money and cannot afford to fund the programs it is legally bound to pay for on its own, the only option left to the State is to nullify the law. In essence, this is a rejection of the federal government and, if it were to be done as much as would be required to stop the encroachments of the federal government, the State(s) would essentially be seceding from the union. Since this is a choice the federal government knows the State will not take, the federal government knows it can control the States by spending money.

This works in a similar way with individuals. The federal government creates programs that are “marketed” as “entitlements” (i.e. giveaways). These “entitlements” are intentionally designed to make the people who accept them dependent upon these programs, thus, dependent upon the federal government. This then gives the federal government further control over the States by providing a voting bloc that can be manipulated through threat of spending cuts. The secondary benefit is that it allows the federal government direct control over the individual. This is accomplished by manipulating the requirements necessary to receive these entitlements. Thus, by spending, the federal government can control the State governments and the people at the same time. What’s more, the government gets to sit back and say they are not forcing anyone to do anything when, in reality, they are.

What the federal government has done can be thought of this way. Pretend we are all in the middle of a desert and the nearest shelter is either here, in the government camp, or 500 miles away, through the desert. Now the government comes and tells you that you are “free” to stay in the camp, where they will provide you the minimum sustenance you need to survive, but in return, you have to agree to let them have control over everything you do. Or, if you do not accept these terms, you are “free” to leave into the desert. In reality, this is not choice at all: if one wishes to survive, one must submit to the government’s control. There is no other practical option. And this is what our government has done – and it has used the people’s money to build this trap.

There is one last atrocity here. It does not bother the federal government that it is spending money it does not have. The power mongers never worry about tomorrow, they live only for today and assume they will be able to manage whatever happens tomorrow. The deficit spending these governments are doing is actually a debt placed on people who have not been born. There is nothing “democratic” about this as the unborn have no vote, therefore, no representation. What deficit spending really is is slavery. By placing a debt on future generations, the government is telling those future generations they MUST work for the benefit of those alive today. Any time a person is forced to work to provide for another, that is slavery.

And that is why Progressives will never stop increasing government spending: because, if they do, they lose power. It is that simple: period, end of issue. And everything about it is immoral and evil — everything.

  1. The Progressives “Elitists” then make foreign investments to protect themselves from the ultimate collapse of the system – foreign residences and “safe places”. For the Bushes this is a ranch in Peru, acquired in the past year or so. They will return to plague us again when it is safe to come back and grab more. The Bushes are past masters at the game. When daddy Bush took over the CIA, Jeb and Jr. went into illegal drugs with the CIA as cover. (Jeb hopes to get elected in 2016 with amnesty for illegal aliens and the help of the Mexican Drug Cartels. Vote for Jeb! Your life depends on it.) When Jr. got the presidency, he made sure to pass No Child Left Behind, and Brother Neil of the Silverado Savings and Loan scandal (1 billion loss to tax payers) launched Ignite, Inc., an educational software company that helps children pass their federally mandated “No Child Left Behind” tests. In addition, McGraw Hill helped draw up “No Child Left Behind” and receives substantial contracts for its educational software. We currently do not know the whereabouts of McGraw Hill’s foreign investments or “safe place”.

    • Kingsley, while you are the Bush-Bash Progressive rant, why not regale us with the two other Harvard-Progressive Presidential elitist jerks? By all means, don’t just skip progressive POTUSes. :)

      • @augger: The Progressives on the Right don’t like doing a prime time expose’ of their own, so I did it for you. The Right just gives prime time to Democrat Progressives. Unless we are willing to take a long hard look at ourselves, we never become acquainted with the enemy – our own ignorance.

    • I wanted to tell you sweet root beer girl, that I sent your link to my pastor as I found it very intriguing. Sorry, I’m off topic once again, but these boys have bitched about Bush til the cows came home…. That said, I do find it interesting that the Texas legislature has revamped their educational standards. Florida did as well, but they did not go to the length that the Texans did.

  2. Socialism – all fun and games … until you run out of other people’s money.

Side bar: The news about the new taxes this morning was enough to cause vomiting.

    • Augger,

have they gone into the cost of new “regulations” yet? I don’t remember “regulations” being authorized in the Constitution but, somehow, they have managed to make them into a de facto tax that we can’t control because bureaucrats are appointed.

      Tyranny, anyone? :-)

  3. Joe, I just started reading your blog. You ‘splained this better than anyone I have read. Specifically, when they made me pull my hair out and scream “WTF are they doing?”

    • Sally,

Thanks. We here on the RNL are just trying to do what we can to help others wake up to what is happening, who is doing it and how. We’ll never claim to be perfect, but we do our best to seek the truth and, when we believe we’ve found it, to share it with others.

I hope we will become a part of your on-line routine :-)

  4. CATCHING PIGS

    THIS IS THOUGHT PROVOKING.

There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange
    students in the class.

One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man,
an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back
    hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him
he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting
communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s
government and install a new communist regime.

In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange
    question.

He asked: “Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line.

The young man said that it was no joke. “You catch wild pigs by finding a
suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it
and begin to come every day to eat the free corn.

“When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of
the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence,
they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence.
“They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have
all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. “The pigs,
which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that
free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around
inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free
corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the
woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.”

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening
    in America.

The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps
spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental
income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies,
dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine,
drugs, etc., while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a
    time.

One should always remember two truths:

There is no such thing as a free lunch, and you can never hire someone to
provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

But, God help us all when the gate slams shut!

Quote for today: “The problems we face today are there because the people
who work for a living are now outnumbered by those who vote for a
    living.” –Anonymous
