Violent Crime Against Youth, 1994-2010

If Sheriff “Slow Joe” Biden, The Shakiest Gun In The West, and his Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight really want to protect children from violence and death, I think I have a better place for him to start than infringing on a Second Amendment right – and it is right in front of him in the data from Eric Holder’s Department of Injustice:

 Violent Crime Against Youth, 1994-2010

Janet L. Lauritsen, Ph.D., Nicole White, Ph.D., University of Missouri

December 20, 2012    NCJ 240106

Presents patterns and trends in violent crime against youth ages 12 to 17 from 1994 to 2010. The report explores overall trends in violent crime against youth and examines patterns in serious violent crime and simple assault by the demographic characteristics of the victim, the location and time of the incident, weapon involvement and injury, the victim-offender relationship, and whether police were notified. Data are from the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), which collects information on nonfatal crimes, reported and not reported to the police, against persons age 12 or older from a nationally representative sample of U.S. households.

Highlights:

  • In 2010, male (14.3 victimizations per 1,000) and female (13.7 per 1,000) youth were equally likely to experience serious violent crime—rape or sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated assault. In comparison, male youth (79.4 per 1,000) were nearly twice as likely as female youth (43.6 per 1,000) to experience serious violent crime in 1994.
  • Among racial and ethnic groups, black youth experienced the highest rates of serious violent crime in 2010. From 2002 to 2010, rates of serious violent crime declined among white (down 26%) and Hispanic (down 65%) youth, but remained the same among black youth.
  • From 1994 to 2010, youth living with an unmarried head of household were generally more likely than youth living with a married head of household to be victims of violent crime. During this period, the decline in serious violent crime was greater for youth in married households (down 86%) than the decline among youth in unmarried households (down 65%).

According to reports, around 100 people (children and adults) have been killed in “school shootings” in the US over the past 20 years, yet that number pales in comparison to the children who die as a result of child abuse and neglect (the majority of whom are under 4 years old). According to Childhelp (a national organization fighting child abuse), over 1,800 children a year – 5 per day – are killed as a result of abuse or neglect.

In no way is this an attempt to diminish the horror of the Sandy Hook shooting – what I am trying to do is to illustrate that the hysteria over guns is just that – hysteria. It is a propaganda message from anti-gun forces (primarily liberals/”progressives”), who cannot make a legitimate argument as to why the Second Amendment, of which the Constitution says that it “shall not be infringed”, should be abrogated – other than “guns are icky, we don’t own or understand them and we don’t like people who have them”.

Why is there no national outrage against fatherless black families? Why is Biden not for banning fists, since this is the most used weapon in the physical abuse of children?

You may not like guns and you may not believe that the Second Amendment provides an individual right to possess a gun – but please do not be so intellectually dishonest to say that this is “about the children” – because your selective outrage shows us that it is not.

What it is, is a Stalinist power grab by ideological forces in government taking advantage of raw emotion.

Do you ever wonder if the German people looked up in 1945 and wondered just how the hell they allowed Hitler to happen to their country?

This is how it starts.

    • I did do the artwork… Just cut and paste using Microsoft Paint but that was the first thing I thought of when I saw Biden on the news last night.

  1. But . . . but . . .Utah, it sounds as thought you might be implyingthat the government acting in loco parentis contributes to the degradation of society! That can’t possibly be so!

Peace be with you, friend 🙂 Kelly

  2. All this reminds me: it looks like we need to restrict the capacity of pants pockets now. The California shooter yesterday used a high-capacity pants pocket to hold shotgun shells. Yes, federal government! Take my guns AND rip out my pants pockets; after all, it’s for the children, so it must be right!

  3. “This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future.” Adolph Hitler, 1935
