A local radio show host who I can’t really get into apparently found a nut this morning. He asked a simple question of the Left:
“If it is acceptable to require a permit to own a gun – a constitutionally protected natural right (the right of self-defense) – then is it acceptable to require a permit to exercise your other rights?
Should we have to have a permit to exercise our free speech?
Should we have to have a permit to exercise our right to vote?
Should we have to have a permit to exercise our right to life?
You see, if you need a “permit,” then it isn’t a right – it’s a privilege.
[Note: I’ll have a post dedicated to the notion of rights vs privileges later this week. This is an area where my “conservative” friends have more in common with the Left than many of them realize and it needs to be addressed in much more detail than I have time for at the moment.]
