“Rights Permits”

A local radio show host who I can’t really get into apparently found a nut this morning.  He asked a simple question of the Left:

“If it is acceptable to require a permit to own a gun – a constitutionally protected natural right (the right of self-defense) – then is it acceptable to require a permit to exercise your other rights?

Should we have to have a permit to exercise our free speech?

Should we have to have a permit to exercise our right to vote?

Should we have to have a permit to exercise our right to life?

You see, if you need a “permit,” then it isn’t a right – it’s a privilege.

[Note: I’ll have a post dedicated to the notion of rights vs privileges later this week.  This is an area where my “conservative” friends have more in common with the Left than many of them realize and it needs to be addressed in much more detail than I have time for at the moment.]

  1. The Supreme Court has agreed with Obama, Reid, & Pelosi.

One must obtain Insurance in order to exercise the privilege of breathing, just like one must buy insurance in order to exercise ones right to drive. ;-)

  2. All the more logical reasoning supporting the position that ‘Marriage’ is a religious rite not a Civil Right. And yet the government is meddling in religion by licensing it and trying to define it.

Just when will the first lawsuit hit the courts alleging discrimination when a Church refuses to marry a homosexual couple?

  3. Well, Don, perhaps in your dreams your BALD BUDDY will speak to me as well.

    Kells!
Please tell me you didn’t go there!
    :)
