Smitty at The Other McCain points to a video that addresses many debate points we have tossed around here: is faith in God reasonable? The video is pretty long but this isn’t a subject that can be resolved in sound bites…
Positive arguments given by Dr. Craig include that God is the best explanation:
- why anything at all exists,
- for the origin of the universe,
- the applicability of mathematics to the physical world,
- for the fine tuning of the universe for intelligent life,
- intentional states of consciousness in the world,
- of objective moral values and duties in the world,
- of the historical facts concerning Jesus’ resurrection,
- of God’s ability to be personally known and experienced.
The first six are rather wonky, the seventh is more historical, and the final point is crucial for the discussion to be more than abstract.
The atheist opponent, Dr. Rosenberg immediately tries to alter the terms of the debate. The debate is not about theism; the debate is about whether faith is nuts. Watch the whole thing when you have a chance. Dr. Rosenberg seems consumed with the Problem of Evil, especially in the case of the Holocaust. I guess if I was Dr. Craig, I would have pointed out that the last century’s Holocaust was by no means the first to occur to the Jews, as a reading of the Old Testament shows.

Thanks, Squatch,
I’ll MAKE time to watch this tonight, and will look forward to it with enthusiasm. But, in the mean time, you made an excellent observation. When one studies the debate over whether or not God exists, one quickly notices that the Atheist habitually alters the premise(s) of the debate. It is usually very subtle and many people miss it, but they always alter them — because they must. They must because, if they address the actual evidence FOR God, the only rational answers indicate a conclusion they have CHOSEN to reject.
Hence, the reason I have commented that Atheism is a choice; and the proof of evil — as the Bible defines it (remember, the Bible calls Satan “The Great Deceiver,” which, incidentally, is one of the 99 beautiful names Allah claims for himself, “The GREATEST Deceiver.”)
John Chapter 3 tells us that while man is born into sin and evil, there is a way out:
and:
Romans 2:12-15:
If people have heard God’s word and do not seek his grace, there is no excuse:
Romans 1:19–20
Amen!
Romans even tells us that those who have never heard God’s word will find Him — if they seek Him. In fact, Romans is the source of Locke’s version of Natural Rights and Natural Law. Many people know of Locke’s treatise on government, but how many know he wrote a book that expands on Romans — line by line?
The self-evident truth is:
God exists.
He is knowable.
We can know Him, all we have to do is seek Him.
But we are flawed, and we still need a Redeemer.
And God loves us all so much that He sent His only begotten Son to be that Redeemer.
And that takes us back to the top of your comment.
Therefore the hatred of so many Atheist, those that have knowingly rejected God and Jesus, know that they are forever erased from the Book of life, and therefore they have the desire to discredit/destroy God and those who believe!
I now have a crush on William Lane Craig. I only watched 37 minutes….will return for the rebuttal. He doesn’t get started til 17 minutes in. I don’t know why you feel his first six points were “wonky”. Is that a rhinoceros on his tie?
Not me, Smitty at McCain’s site…
I will surely PRAY for you sasquatchtheyeti…. I feel sadness for folks who are NON Believers! In fact, my Lord, JESUS CHRIST charges his followers and thus Believers to do exactly that. May PEACE … THE KING OF PEACE find you, is my prayer and hope for you… neither of us “evolved” if so… EVERYTHING on the planet would have evolved as well, and at the exact same rate! Blessings to you, you are being lifted up in prayer.
Ma’am, I am a Christian. I was only making sure that the quote attribution was correct.
Praise the Lord! Of course GOD the Almighty whos “only” son Jesus Christ, who died for our sins is EXACTLY the ONLY explanation! It bears the ONLY “logic”… even Albert Einstein realized and recognized this and ARGUED his theory in the book named “GOD VS. SCIENCE!” It’s an EXTREMELY interesting theory too, indeed, certainly considering “this genuis CREATION!”
I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENTHENS ME! “a beautiful quote used by Tim Tebow!” Love this verse in Phil.
Up to 1:12. Rosenberg is dreadful. Craig’s rebuttal was sound. Just thought I’d give you an update you…………. hairy heathen!
