An Example of Government Propaganda

I just heard a PSA by Al Rocker that claimed 1 in 6 Americans do not know where their next meal is coming from.  Friends, this is not just a “distortion,” it’s a flat-out lie!  But they depend on you being too lazy or too ignorant to do the math for yourself.  So, assuming you are too busy to take the time yourself, allow me to explain what has to be true for this PSA to be true.

First, the CIA says the U.S. population is roughly 314 million people.

Next, there are some 46 million Americans on food stamps.

Doing the math, this figure yields a figure of 15% of the population is on food stamps already.  Now, let’s assume this means these people know where their next meal is coming from – because we are paying for it.

But Roker says there are still 1 in 6 Americans who do not know where their next meal is coming from.  That is 52,333,333 Americans who do not know when they will eat again.  That is 17% of the population.

Now, here is how we know this PSA is lying.  If we eliminated all food stamps, it would mean 98 million Americans wouldn’t know where their next meal is coming from.  That is 1 in 3 Americans (31%)!!!

Putting that in perspective, it means that, if you have a family of three, you are not feeding one member of your family.

It means that, looking at the next 2 people you see around you, 1 of them is starving and doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from.

It means that EVERYONE in California…AND Texas…AND New York…AND everyone in Illinois…AND everyone in Alabama is starving.

Now, do you honestly believe that the three most populace States in this nation and two more thrown in for good measure are all starving?  Or is it easier to believe that this is government sponsored propaganda designed to make you believe something they know is not true to convince you to give them more of your political power, money and rights to fight the myth they are creating?

  1. Wasn’t this all based upon a questionnaire ? If it is taken literally, I suppose A LOT of people don’t ‘know where their next meal is coming from’, especially if one included children in the questioning. It is all absurd and serves to take attention away from those who REALLY need or want help. Besides, I heard from the FLOTUS that everyone is too fat and could stand to starve a bit(!) We have an obesity problem! We have a hunger problem! Well, if you include hunger for a sensible government, then I agree.

    • drk,

If people were REALLY starving, the government wouldn’t be ruining 1600 lb of FDA approved, processed deer meat that was donated to a homeless shelter. Nor would there be laws telling you that you can’t give food to the needy if it is deemed to contain too much salt. Etc, etc…

    • Steve,

Perhaps not, but then, it’s hard to shine with such an obvious and easily refuted lie.

But, if you think you read some lack of concern for the hungry in this post, I can assure you, this is not the case. I have compassion for those who are truly in need, and am commanded to care for those who cannot care for themselves. But I am NOT commanded to accept lies that are meant to coerce me and my brethren. :-)

      • I don’t Agree with Steve.

You have put out there something I am hearing on the Radio too……….. If people have Food Stamps then their only question about where their next Meal is comming from is where they will shop.

There are probably people who are working but struggling to make all their ends meet . But the claim is obviously a GROSS overestimate. With unemployment insurance extended endlessly and Social Security disability being tapped by people at an ever increasing rate ( all engineered by Obama)…..there are a lot of folks struggling. But to inply they are Starving is pure unadulterated Propaganda.
