So Much For The Left’s Love Of/For ‘Democracy’

If the Left really cared about the will of the people, then please explain these headlines:

Should the Bible Have More — or Less — Influence on Society? This Is Where Americans Stand

To begin, more than half of the country believes the Bible should have more influence in today’s world, with 56 percent of respondents claiming that the holy book has “too little influence in society today.” And 53 percent report reading the Bible to be closer to God.

[Yet, the Courts and Left forcibly push religion from any and all aspects of public life – in violation of the Constitution and will of the people.  The 1st Amendment guarantees freedom of – not from – religion.  SO much for democracy where freedom of conscience is concerned.]

Poll: Support for stricter gun control wanes

Currently, support for stricter gun control laws stands at 47 percent today, down from a high of 57 percent just after the shootings. Thirty-nine percent want those laws kept as they are, and another 11 percent want them made less strict.

[Yet, in spite of the very clear language in the 2nd Amendment and the majority opinion of the public, our govt. is trampling our rights to self-defense.  So much for democracy where the right to defend yourself and the rest of your rights is concerned.]

Obama Cannot Imagine A State’s Gay Marriage Ban Being Constitutional

President Barack Obama said he could not imagine a circumstance in which a state banning gay marriage was legal,..

[Funny, he doesn’t seem to have a problem violating the Constitution where it clearly restrains his desires, but here he says the Constitution mandates something that it clearly leaves to the States.  So much for democracy when it comes to community standards and a State’s ability to amend its constitution.]

On Deficit, Americans Prefer Spending Cuts; Open to Tax Hikes

I guess when it comes to democracy and balancing the budget, neither it nor spending cuts matter to the Left.  And on the issue of taxation, the opinion/will of the people doesn’t seem to matter there, either:

Public Opinion and Taxes 1937 to Present

Health care is another issue where the will of the public doesn’t seem to matter to the Left:

Public Opinion Opposes Obamacare

Now that the truth is out about the global warming fraud/scare, the people have turned against draconian govt. ‘solutions,’ yet the will of the people doesn’t seem to matter to the Left on this issue, either:

In U.S., Far Fewer Say Temperatures Are Warmer Than Usual

We can go on, but – if you are among the rational – I think I’ve made my point about how much the Left likes ‘democracy.’  It doesn’t; it just likes to claim it supports democracy because it is an idea near and dear to the heart of most Americans.  But, as with most things connected to the Left’s agenda, we need to apply the 180 degree rule to everything the Left says.

  1. I posted Matthew 7:7 for silly Karl a while back ago. This morning when he spoke on the Book of Revelation, I was awfully tempted to post a verse. Aw, what the heck: Revelation 3:20. Take it to heart, Karl.

  2. I think the Numbers are higher than 56-53% in favor of the Bible being an important part of America’s history and traditions …. I speak to folks who aren’t Christian and some who don’t even believe in God who still feel that the Bibles is important and should not be overlooked and dissed in our Culture. Seems like the truer number might be more like in the high 60’s %.

    • Don,

This is irrelevant to this post, but I checked out “Occupy: Unmasked”. Great reccomendation. I thoroughly enjoyed it as a film maker and a critic of the movement.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard from Karl on this subject yet. I cant wait to hear more insights on what he says the Bible actually claims.

So, I’ll buy that the poll is true. Does that mean we legislate the Bible? Or Christianity? Or Christian law?

Put more inflammatory: What’s the difference in legislating Sharia Law vs Christian Law?

    • Pino,

The Constitution is based on Judea/Christian ethic — which is why you are allowed your individual rights and liberty. This is not the case under Sharia.

Christ did NOT command that Christians force our faith on anyone: quite the contrary. We are to tell you about Christ and offer Him to you, but if you refuse, we are to leave you to yourself.

Islam will just take your head if you refuse to convert/submit.

      • The Constitution is based on Judea/Christian ethic

        Hmm, I’m not sure.

The Constitution is based on the system used by Freemasons. And Freemasons acknowledge, in fact require, faith.

I would say that if anything is “based” on a faith, it would be the Hebrewonic faith. Which includes both of Abraham’s sons.

        • Pino,

1 — The Declaration is based in NT philosophy. The pursuit of happiness was a legal concept at the time, firmly rooted in Christian teaching.

2 — Franklin is the one who said the Constitution was based on OT principles, but it must be remembered that the OT IS part of Christianity.

3 — Ishmael is NOT part of the Jewish faith. Abraham was told — by God — to send him and his mother into the wilderness. He became the founder of those peoples who now follow Islam, and Islam is the negation of the Judea/Christian faith — NOT an extension of it.

    • Pino, I believe we have been legislating Christian law by systematically removing it from our schools, govt., and courthouses, then simultaneously, we seem to be infiltrating churches with the govt. (Rev. Wright comes to mind…. amongst others.)

To be fair, it would seem that we should treat Islamic law the same way that Christian law has been treated.

      • Pino, I believe we have been legislating Christian law by systematically removing it from our schools, govt., and courthouses

We certainly are removing the ability of a government official to be faithful.

And yes, we are passing laws that are really taking the place of good parenting [Mayor Bloomberg].

I also think that we as a society should focus more on the Bible. I would just be careful of legislating that.

        • Well, I think the founders saw to that. They knew very well the outcome of abiding by state laws as well as with canon laws at the same time. I read a very interesting case on this by a fella in England from the 17th century. The founders had to have been keen on this case…….

  4. When progressives use the word Democracy, they generally mean socialism. They have a completely different definition than most people do for the word.

“”Socialism and democracy are almost if not quite one and the same”” – Woodrow Wilson

“””The only way to have a genuinely democratic society would also be to abolish capitalism in this state”” – Occupy Strategy Session, March 2012

“”The struggle for self-determination has had two stages : (1 ) a united front against imperialism and for New Democracy (which is a joint dictatorship of anti-colonial classes led by the proletariat, the content of which a compromise between the interests of the proletariat and nationalist peasants , petit bourgeoisie and national bourgeoisie) ; and ( 2) developing out of the new democratic stage, socialism.”” – Weather Underground, 1969

“”Like all effective organizations, STORM had to figure out how to support leadership while fostering democracy.”” – Reclaiming Revolution (Van Jones affiliation)

“”She (Greece) fell before a united Macedon, even as Macedon fell before the larger unity of the Roman Empire. But did they not try a virtual Socialism in Athens? And while it endured, did it not produce an individuality elsewhere unequaled in the world?”” – An article titled “Where Socialism Was Tried”, by the American Fabian Society, highlighting Athens Greece

“”Democracy is impossible in a Capitalist system”” – Hugo Chavez

Democracy is impossible in a Capitalist system because it doesn’t mean democracy, it means socialism.

    • The only way to have a genuinely democratic society would also be to abolish capitalism in this state

I agree with your assessment of the left.

I have this discussion all the time. The leftists want results to be more, if not exactly, equal. Everyone should have access to the best goods, the best foods and the best medical care. And everyone has to contribute to society.

They do not, however, know how to handle the individual who refuses to work his fair share.

    • Progressing,

I see you are fully up to speed on the Progressive lexicon. In other words, you speak Prog very well.

Not to worry, there are many others here on the RNL who speak it, too. Welcome to the fray 🙂
