This story is only showing up on the sports pages here in the UK and I have yet to see it published in an American paper. Taken on it’s own, this story about Juan Pablo Pino is just interesting in the sport world – especially that of football (soccer) but in the larger context, it is a disturbing example of the American media’s policy of ignoring any distasteful presentation of Islam:
According to reports, Colombian winger Juan Pablo Pino was arrested by the Saudi moral police when fellow shoppers in a Riyadh mall complained about the exposed tattoos on his arms, which include the face of Jesus and other religious symbols. Pino joined Saudi club Al Nassr on loan from Galatasaray at the end of August and apparently was not aware that showing his tattoos by wearing a sleeveless shirt in public would cause him any problems.
From Colombia Reports:
Saudi Arabia is one of the most conservative countries in the Muslim world, and according to one of the country’s most respected clerics, Nayimi Sheik Mohammed, Saudi law prohibits tattoos, no matter what their form, and every player has to abide with these rules.
The cleric went on to stress the importance of respecting the status of “Sharia” (Islamic law) and that the tattoos must be covered at all times.
Pino, who plays in the Saudi league, has expressed “deep sorrow” for his actions and said he respects the laws of the country. He was released from custody when a team delegate arrived and discussed the matter with the police.
Gulf News reports that a Saudi Football Federation official “sent a circular to all clubs asking them to advise their professionals and players to respect Saudi traditions and not show their religious symbols in a way disregarding Saudi customs and traditions” after a cross tattoo on the arm of a Romanian player for Al Hilal caused controversy last year.
It’s unclear whether Al Nassr informed Pino of this in his short time with the club, but he’ll probably be investing in some long-sleeve shirts now.
My question is why should Pino do anything to cover up a representation of his faith and why isn’t there an international outcry from the usual suspects who bitch about “intolerance” in America and anything that Israel does to protect itself?
That was rhetorical, I know the answer…
This is not an isolated situation. There has been little reportage of the attacks on Coptic Christians in Egypt. The Copts are the largest minority religion in Egypt and were the dominant religion in the 4th and 6th century AD until the Muslim conquest of Egypt (remember, it is a Religion of Peace[tm])…
Egypt is back to “business as usual” with the Islamic majority harassing and attacking its Christian minority.
A group of Muslims burnt down part of a church Friday – the Islamic Sabbath – in the village of Marinab, according to a report published in the daily Al Masry Al Youm. The village, situated close to the town of Edfu in the Aswan Governorate, is located some 800 kilometers south of Cairo.
I guess that Christians aren’t allowed to participate in the “pro-democracy” Arab Spring movement. Maybe the #Occupy[yournamehere] protests ARE like the “Arab Spring”, they don’t like the “dirty Joos” either:
While there have been intense arguments in the media recently about hints of anti-Semitism which have erupted at New York’s Occupy Wall Street protest, very little attention has been paid to similar problems cropping up at other “Occupy” events around the country.
Below you will find some photographs and a video taken at the Occupy Los Angeles encampment which reveal how there is a growing encroachment of anti-Semitic “Jewish bankers” conspiracy theories becoming more and more evident at these events. Obviously not everyone at the “Occupy” protests is an anti-Semite, but the fact that these statements and views fit so neatly into the whole anti-banker milieu, and often go completely unchallenged by fellow protesters, should give everyone cause for concern about where this whole movement is heading.
Wall Street bankers = rich Jews? Hollywood better watch out for the #Occupy LA hippies.
Maybe the Big Leftist Media is right for once, maybe the #O[ynh] guys are JUST LIKE the Islamists in the Middle East.
Sounds like they may share the same goals. We know that the Islamic goal is the total annihilation of Israel – clearly expressed here in the charter of Hamas – but they are achieving the goal elsewhere:
A 45-year-old man is believed to have become the last Jew in Afghanistan after the death of the caretaker of the only functioning synagogue in Kabul.
It has emerged that the caretaker, Ishaq Levin, aged about 80, died of natural causes about a week ago.
His Jewish neighbour, Zebulon Simentov, lived with Mr Levin in the synagogue.
Correspondents say that around 5,000 Afghan Jews left the country after the creation of Israel in 1948, with others leaving after the 1979 Soviet invasion.
Any of you in the States hear about any of this?
I didn’t think so.
I rest my case.
