This clip of Jack from the old NBC TV show, Will and Grace, is an apt illustration of the irrational reaction of the media and the gay community to Obama’s “coming out”. Just substitute Kool-Aid for Jack’s coffee, Obama for the name of Jack’s new infatuation, Paul, and the bag Jack has for one from the LGBT for Obama Party Pack sold at Obama’s Pander Bear Shoppe and it is spot on. It is soooo totally super fantastic Andrew Sullivan-like.
At a certain point, I’ve just concluded that– for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that– I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.
Those three little words: “for me personally” change the context of the whole statement. It takes it from an official position of the President of the United States to the personal opinion of a citizen. It is a “get out of jail free” card for Obama but the LGBT community and the media just didn’t hear those words.
Obama’s statement isn’t policy, it is politics. Big difference.
All of Obama’s statements come with caveats and expiration dates – we all know that. They know that – but just try to tell that to a drama queen in love… They have found a new boyfriend – just like Jack did.
Maybe he isn’t Mr. Right, but I guess Mr. Right Now is OK, and Obama sure fits that bill.
