Robert Reich Plumbs the Depths of the Moron Sea…

…then reaches the bottom and proceeds to bury himself in silt.

To follow on to Black3’s post on “progressive” ideology, just read this ridiculous column titled, “Some Republicans Have A Stupid Idea Of Patriotism” at The Business Insider:

True patriots don’t hate the government of the United States. They’re proud of it. Generations of Americans have risked their lives to preserve it. They may not like everything it does, and they justifiably worry when special interests gain too much power over it. But true patriots work to improve the U.S. government, not destroy it.

But regressive Republicans loathe the government – and are doing everything they can to paralyze it, starve it, and make the public so cynical about it that it’s no longer capable of doing much of anything. Tea Partiers are out to gut it entirely. Norquist says he wants to shrink it down to a size it can be “drowned in a bathtub.”

When arguing against paying their fair share of taxes, wealthy regressives claim “it’s my money.” But it’s their nation, too. And unless they pay their share America can’t meet the basic needs of our people. True patriotism means paying for America.

So when regressives talk about “preserving and protecting” the nation, be warned: They mean securing our borders, not securing our society. Within those borders, each of us is on our own. They don’t want a government that actively works for all our citizens.

Their patriotism is not about coming together for the common good. It is about excluding outsiders who they see as our common adversaries.

…and was so pissed that I was compelled to leave this in the comment thread:

Nowhere does Reich or any “progressive” define what “fair” is. @Liz says “Patriotism is one of those words Americans use that has no meaning. I laugh when Republicans even say it nowadays.” – well, @Liz, that’s how I feel when I hear a “progressive” say the word “fair”. To your side, “fair” means give me everything and I’ll give you back what I want you to have. It is an incontrovertible fact that only about half of the tax filers actually paid income tax and that we already have the most steeply “progressive” tax structure of any industrialized country with the top 50% paying 97% of the taxes and the top 25% paying over 87%, yet Reich wants more. How much is “more”? You don’t want it because it is fair, you simply don’t believe that anyone should have something that you or your constituency doesn’t and seek to confiscate it. In your lexicon, “fair” is spelled e-n-v-y.

As far as immigration, a nation without secure borders is no nation at all. A nation cannot exist without sovereignty. Republicans are not anti-immigration, we are anti-ILLEGAL immigration. A country has the right to determine who can enter and who can’t.

In an age before the clouding of young minds with crap like gender studies, black studies and “diversity”, Reich’s position of “fair” (i.e. total) taxation and open borders would be recognized for the global Marxism that it is and rejected by free people. That people can support such a position form a former member of our government indicates who the ignorant are – and it isn’t the Republicans.

“Progressives” simply cannot conceive of a world where government doesn’t come first and when any form of government is questioned, they respond as if someone was stealing their life-force – I guess that is because we are. They are like the Borg – there is nothing without the collective.

“Progressive” is just another word for a Marxist dilettante.

The man who made that comment has no understanding of American history or the original intent of our founders in regard to the federal govt. It is not that the TEA Party hates the govt., it is just that the TEA Party wants govt. to return to the size it was intended and designed to be. As to what that size is, I am not as qualified to comment as was this man:

“[T]he States can best govern our home concerns and the general government our foreign ones. I wish, therefore… never to see all offices transferred to Washington, where, further withdrawn from the eyes of the people, they may more secretly be bought and sold at market.”

Thomas Jefferson, letter to Judge William Johnson, June 12, 1823
