More tales of the success that is the NHS in the UK:

THE number of emergency patients in Scotland who have to wait for 12 hours to be seen by a doctor has doubled over the past four years, according to figures released yesterday.

Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon revealed that 882 patients had to wait more than 12 hours to be seen in A&E last year, up from just 400 in 2008-9.

The numbers having to wait more than eight hours have also shot up, from 2,190 in 2008 to 5,097 last year. The
release of the figures prompted claims from Labour that cuts to the number of nursing staff across hospitals in Scotland were to blame, meaning hundreds of patients were having to wait for unacceptable periods of time before being treated.

However, the Scottish Government hit back, insisting that, while long waits did exist, the “vast majority” of patients were being seen within four hours of arriving at A&E.

The figures, which were released in response to questions from Labour MSP Margaret McCulloch, show how patients in some A&E units are suffering far more than others. At Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, the numbers waiting more than 12 hours have risen from 35 patients in 2008-9 to 256 in the last financial year.

So is it really an emergency if you have to wait 12 hours for treatment?

Welcome to universal healthcare. It’s not the fault of the doctors, nurses or technicians – it is the idea that health care can be successfully centrally planned.

As a side note, I did get to see a sleep specialist before my 15 weeks were up – but only because I called to see it there was a cancellation – there was, and I got in on July 11, 4 weeks ago. What has been done?

Nothing. No follow up, no information, no contact.
I’ve had no communication from the Sleep Centre at the Royal Infirmary of Scotland here in Edinburgh. Zero. Zip. Nada.

  1. What can I say? ::: shrugs :::

The liberal left is right. UK modeled healthcare is the best damn delivered healthcare on the planet. Don’t believe me, just ask them, they will tell you.

Nevermind that those touting how absolutely wonderful that these universal healthcare models are the ones who are not living within that umbrella. Oh no, they have myopic studies to see. Easy read for them too as they are done in graphs, and pie charts.

    Just saying.

You ever notice that the ones touting the benefits of a particular program are usually the people that are exempt from said program?

      • You are out of bounds mister. Do you not realize that you sir, are the target of vilification, and have no right to shoot back?

You need to check yourself at the door. 🙂

  2. My congressman, Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, told us something he got from son, who works in a Florida hospital not too far from Disney.
It seems that the wait for a by-pass operation is so long in The UK, that when your Doctor tells you you need one, don’t go home and wait. Book a trip to Disney. Seems like all the walking, coupled with the excitement is sure to trigger a cardiac event. The Disney people will ensure you will get to the hospital in very short order where the efficient private health care system will provide you with the necessary surgery in minutes after arrival.
Once released, you fly back home, dodging both the bill, and the UK health care system.
