  1. Ah yes- the Republican hero Reagan. In his run-up to Gov of CA- where he did as much lasting damage as he later did our nation as pres.

Which I will focus on here as most people will be more familiar with that phase of his career:

    So…where to start?
Let’s see…he increased the US (public) debt, an avg 10.3% increase, only beaten by both Bush’s (and matched by Obama)

As to total debt he oversaw a whopping 253% increase. (bush sr 55%, Bush jr 86%, Obama 34%)

Reagan, who traded arms for hostages (no appeasment there eh?). Who supplied Saddam Hussein with WMD’s. Who willfully allowed pakistan to acquire the bomb in exchange for using the country to train, and arm the afghan mujhaideen (who morphed to the taliban after he abandoned them).

Who ran dirty little wars in virtually ever south and central american country- often supporting brutal dictators and their torture and genocide because they were “less communist” then the countries freely elected leaders.

whose magic bullet for his, comparatively minor to today, economic problems was adding over 100,000 federal jobs and encouraging the states to add over 1.2 million government jobs.

hell- I could go on for pages. But simply put- watching what reagan actually did (including watching one of my relatives be one of the highest ranking people convicted in Iran/Contra) was a major reason for my move towards the left.
