The Plan: How to Save the Union — and Liberty — Through Reverse Secession

“The several states composing the United States of America are not united on the principle of unlimited submission to their general government; but by a compact under the style and title of a Constitution for the United States, and of amendments thereto, they constituted a general government for special purposes [and] delegated to that government certain definite powers and whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force. To this compact each state acceded as a state, and is an integral party, its co-states forming, as to itself, the other party. The government created by this compact was not made the exclusive or final judge of the extent of the powers delegated to itself, since that would have made its discretion, and not the Constitution the measure of its powers.”

–Thomas Jefferson

This secession movement seems to be getting a little traction out there:

White House website deluged with secession petitions from 20 states

How would Old Glory look with 30 stars instead of 50? As far-fetched as it may sound, the White House might soon be forced by its own rules to examine the question.

Well, Texas, you have done it.

As of 3:40 p.m. ET, more than 25,000 Texans have already signed the petition on The White House website to let Texas peacefully secede from United States of America and “create its own NEW government.”
The petition, created on Nov. 9, argues for secession, stating:

But wait, before you just dismiss this secession talk, consider this:

72% of Obama Job Creation in Right To Work States

From June 2009 to September 2012, America gained some 2.59 million jobs. That weak recovery was the basis for the Obama re-election campaign. But as it turns out, virtually all of that job creation happened in states that are right-to-work – states in which no industry can force people to join a union in order to work. There are 22 right-to-work states. During that period, those states saw an increase in employment of 1.86 million. That means, according to the National Institute for Labor Relations Research, that “Right to Work states … were responsible for 72% of all net household job growth across the US from June 2009 through September 2012.”

Here’s the map:

Now, compare it to this map and ask yourself if you see a possible correlation:

Now compare those two maps to this one:

The Real Boundaries of the Bible Belt

“When the representative body have lost the confidence of their constituents, when they have notoriously made sale of their most valuable rights, when they have assumed to themselves powers which the people never put into their hands, then indeed their continuing in office becomes dangerous to the State, and calls for an exercise of the power of dissolution.”
“If any state in the Union will declare that it prefers separation… to a continuance in union… I have no hesitation in saying, ‘let us separate.”

–Thomas Jefferson

NOW, HERE’S HOW I PROPOSE WE SAVE THE UNION

First, those States which still believe in the ideals and principles of this nation need to force the minority States that are dictating to the majority to secede by leaving the union. True, the “red States” will be doing the seceding, but we will be bringing the Constitution with us. In reality, the net effect will be to force the blue States out of the union. In this way, we cut the cancer from our nation.

Next, we restore the Constitution as well as the ideals and principles it was intended to protect and preserve as espoused in the Declaration of Independence. Then, as Jefferson said we would, we will amend it through the proper method to make provisions against the cancer of Progressivism ever metastasizing in our society and government again. We will take measures to insure the schools stay local; to see to it that prayer and the pledge are returned to our schools; media is never allowed to be consolidated; private property is protected once again; heavier chains are placed upon the roles of government to bind it down more firmly and the system of checks and balances are returned and strengthened. The legislative body will also be tied down to Bills and Acts that must be in keeping with both natural law and Constitutional constraints.

We will also replace the tax system with a tax system that operates in keeping with natural law. This will go further toward repairing and healing our economy than anything else we can do as humans. Then we will get government out of the way of the Churches and other charities so that they may return to their traditional functions of providing for the truly needy among us.

Finally, as the blue States start to fail and – as they eventually will – they seek to be readmitted in to the union, we will readily and willingly accept them back into the fold – so long as they willingly accept our repaired Constitution AND agree to amend their State Constitutions to support and enhance the ideals and beliefs contained within it.

Eventually, as the blue States fail and their people start to starve as they are doing now in Europe, they will all come back to the union – just as Jefferson predicted they would should a group of States ever leave the union. And by following this plan, we will not only be the first nation in history to break the cycle of republican decay, we will restore this nation to its place of exceptionalism on the world stage. This is the path to restoring this nation to its rightful place as the leader of the world, but leader through example and by extending the open hand of friendship and assistance rather than the mailed fist of conquest and subjugation.

To be sure, this plan need more work, but then, this is off the cuff. But it can and will work — especially when you look at the map and realize this new nation will be energy and food self-sufficient and will retain the largest part f the wealth=producing aspects that remain of the national economy as it is now.  All we need to do is disseminate it to the States and start pushing it. Leaders will follow; we just need to make sure we only look to honorable patriots to lead us and not a single career politician. Do these things; follow this plan and we will do what the South tried to do in the War of Northern Aggression, only – this time – it will work because it will be righteous, it will be legal and it will be peaceful…unless the blue States resort to violence when they realize their slaves are leaving the reservation upon which they have sought to confine us through their subversion and perversion of our system.

    • HD,

Did you actually read this post — especially the end? You have asked for an idea as to what to do in the past. I would be interested to hear what you think of my suggested solution.

  1. ah yes. a “petition”. Requiring only an unverified last name and initial. And wow- 25,000 from texas. No make that- 25,000 signing the petition from texas (and judging from the postings on various tea-party forums want to talk about the number of times a person is signing each and everyone of the petitions. Both the javascriptand php that is not circulating to automate this for folks?)

And still- less then 1/10 of 1 percent of the states populations. Wow- what a groundswell.

And bravo- growth in the “right to wor states”. As corporations move operations to increase profits for their executives and shareholders. Odd that this correlates with the shrinking of real wages for these jobs. A decrease in revenue for the states. An increase in those employed still requiring public assistance to get by. Bang up job there…

      Jealous much. drugs?

But yeah, you an your little proto-Marxist friends just keep raising the costs of business, and watch how many more businesses collapse, or those that survive raise prices even further in order to ward off a collapse.

But you proto-Marxists won’t be happy until the unemployment rate reaches 100%, right?

  2. The blue states subsidize the red states. By all means take your bibles, your bigotry and your prejudice with you and secede. You will be doing the rest of us an enormous favor.

    • Joe,

I pray we have the opportunity be rid of us in the red. But I believe it would turn out as I predict — because history has proven it is ever the case. to let you “tolerant and peace-loving” people in the blue States

      • I like your idea.

Especially when O brings his UN or civilian defense force in to enforce his will upon all individuals.

The Washington statists, will never peaceably allow any state to secede.

    • Joe, here’s one you might enjoy that was forwarded to me by someone else (for entertainment purposes; I can’t judge the accuracy of the numbers without doing more research than is worth the time, and I don’t know who “Jeff” is):

      Dear Red States:

We’re ticked off at your Neanderthal attitudes and politics and we’ve decided we’re leaving.

We in the Blue States intend to form our own country .

In case you aren’t aware that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and the rest of the Northeast.

We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially to the people of the new country of The Enlightened States of America (E.S.A).

      To sum up briefly:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get Bobby Jindal and Todd Akin.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.

We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country’s fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95% of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the US low sulphur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

We’re taking the good weed too. You can have that crap they grow in Mexico.

      Sincerely,

Citizen of the Enlightened States of America and Jeff

      • Idiots are so cute sometimes:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

        There are no slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

Except for the CDC in Atlanta and the best beaches are in Florida.

We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get Bobby Jindal and Todd Akin.

You are welcome to Andy and Fauxcahontas.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

Don’t forget Disneyland – we get that. And the Appalachian Mountains. And Williamsburg, St. Petersburg and Jamestown.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

And we get NASA, 70% of the military bases and almost all the nukes.

We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.

Sounds like a good trade to me, I’m sure that William Faulkner would approve. We also get Mississippi State and Georgia Tech, two of the best engineering schools in the country…and it is Ole Miss – it isn’t Spanish.

We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama.

We will just keep the money that our investors send to your venture capital firms and thanks for Huntsville and Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. Appreciate that.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Just like a good progressive – create programs to redistribute wealth and then complain about it. Red states produce better public education for less per student cost anyway.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

Your divorce rate is lower because your people don’t get married – you also get the highest rate of unwed mothers and fatherless households in the county- also the highest rates of abortion. You get the highest rates of black and youth unemployment and overall joblessness.

Most of your statics are coming out your lower intestine but, we have 90% of the grain, cotton, citrus, potato and soybean production, so say goodbye to your bread, your cotton clothes, Florida oranges (and orange juice), French fries and your soy lattes.

We also get the Jack Daniels distillery so we won’t be needing your wine.

How’s that Ivy League working out for you anyway? If Liz Warren and Obama are your leading lights, not too good, huh?

We will hang on to the Bakken and Eagle Ford formations and the Gulf of Mexico – you are against fracking and coastal oil production, so you will be running out pretty soon – most of the US refinery capacity is in Texas and the Gulf region.

In case you haven’t noticed, the high tech firms are moving to the south – we will just cut off all the Dell computers and the chipsets that are manufactured by Applied Materials and Intel. They may be head-quartered in California but they manufacture in right to work states like Texas. Boeing, too. A lot of the large hospital corporations are here, too – we’ll just keep those as well. Oooo – and car companies build cars down here as well. Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai and lots of GM, Chrysler and Ford plants, too.

We also produce our electricity with hydro and natural gas and Utah and West Virginia has all the coal we need.

        Thank you, too.

        And your point would be?

100% of you lefties believe Jonah Hill is actually funny, and you believe that it is OK to end a human life if it is an inconvenient “clump of cells”. We believe in the death penalty because there was a capital crime committed and a conviction by a jury – as opposed to abortion where 100% of the victims are innocent. Evolution is a theory because it has not been actually, you know, proven. There is not one single shred of evidence to exclude the possibility that God did, in fact, create mankind. What we do have is the observations of an evolutionary process as part of the nature of man but there is no proof that it is the cause. Correlation is not causation. Man cannot create life.

As far as Saddam, I doubt your statistics – the last I saw was that 10 years after 9/11, 38% of AMERICA believed that we have conclusive proof that Iraq was involved.

Oh, yeah – and as this letter proves, 100% of you condescending lefties are self-righteous assholes.

      • James,

Do you actually think those farmers, entrepreneurs, and the venture capitalist are going to stay under your oppressive taxes that have us in this mess in the first place? Do you think the blood sucking population that just elected this president will stay in our new land of liberty when they have to earn a living and contribute to society? You will have 50% taxes and 100% union. Lets face it, you will have socialism.

The fact that you think the Ivy league still carries weight shows your ignorance. Such corruption carries much of the responsibility for the current situation. You can keep them.

Just look at history. Those seeking liberty and freedom from your oppression have always fared better than the oppressers. Isreal from Egypt, Colonies from England. God favors those who seek liberty and justice in His name. You may keep your enlightenment I will take principles everyday.

    • @joe

And why is it that blue “subsidizes” red?

Progressivism. The welfare state guarantees it:

But red-state lawmakers’ ability to bring home the bacon isn’t the main reason for the paradox. Red states, on average, are also lower-income states. Because of the progressive federal income tax, states with higher incomes pay vastly higher federal taxes. These payments are unlikely to be matched by federal spending directed back into those states.

This transfer of tax dollars from the states to the federal government is net of tax deductions, including deductions for state taxes ($50 billion in fiscal year 2012) and mortgage interest ($100 billion). As the former U.S. Treasury economist Martin Sullivan showed in the March issue of Tax Notes, the mortgage interest deduction overwhelmingly benefits high-income states. If it weren’t for that deduction, blue states would be even bigger net payers than they are today.

Look at the map, there Joe. Where is all the food grown? Where are the oil reserves? Where is the most open space?

Veronique de Rugy has a good question for you: Why would you, as a blue state ideologist continue to vote to have your resources transferred away from your state?

Why would voters in red states elect lawmakers who promise them small government when they benefit disproportionately from federal handouts? Why would voters in blue states elect lawmakers who support policies that redistribute their income to red states?

Your argument is limited and ignorant. We clearly do not share your secular progressive values – which coincidentally are not the values that America was founded on. The US declared independence from England for reasons very similar to what is happening today – religious freedom, economic slavery through taxation without representation, no voice in government. Yeah, we lost an election – we and 58 million other voters – and as I pointed out, 407,000 votes in key counties in swing states changed the course of the election.

    • “The blue states subsidize the red states. By all means take your bibles, your bigotry and your prejudice with you and secede. You will be doing the rest of us an enormous favor.”

Another fine example of benevolent liberalism on display. And then stupid dolts like you wonder why our opinions differ. Please tell me how California is subsidizing a state like Texas? Hell, they are bankrupt. They cannot subsidize themselves, much less anyone else.

  3. How is Capital Punishment and Gun Rights equivalent to Abortion thus making our position of Pro-Life inconsistent? It is perfectly consistent to uphold the sanctity of life in each case. The life of the “innocent baby”, the life of the “innocent victim” of murder and the life of my “innocent family” if you come through my door to do them harm. In all cases the life of the innocent is upheld and defended. In the same the liberal is consistent. They promote the needless death of innocent babies to protect the non-threatened mother in which 99% of the cases the pregnancy is only an inconvenience. They promote the death of an innocent murder victim by devaluing their life in their rabid protection of the guilty. And they devalue the life of the innocent victim of various violent crimes by making it hard to carry a gun to protect yourself and those you love. Why is this so hard to grasp?

  4. Well, well, well. Let the sad little peckerheads succeed. Maybe between a few hundred of them they can recall how it turned out LAST time it was tried. The south has YET to recover from it.

  5. As is always the case with group-think Progressives, they tend to expect static outcomes. It’s like when states pass sin taxes. Consumption goes down and the tax panacea fails to materialize. But what y’all fail to realize is people will alter their behavior to either gain benefit or avoid penalty. Seriously. You can keep most of what you seem proud of. Like Cuomo and the fake Indian. Worldcom doesn’t exist anymore. Wasn’t sure you were aware. You forgot Enron but they wound up screwing Progressives for the most part anyway. I could elaborate but why beat a dead horse? Utah was quite dead-on on all of his points. I see little of the blue mecca I couldn’t live without.

But, as I stated in my original premise you assume that we will remain as we are. That we will collapse because we have no nanny state Progressives feeding us tax revenue. Now allow me to enlighten you to a scenario you didn’t see coming.

A free Republic, who abides by limited Govt, will actually become a magnet for cash and investment. Why stay in a regressive state such as California that fixes its problems be taxing its job creators to death? You were aware that businesses are leaving California in droves? No, if anything I would see a huge influx of businesses immigrating to the new republic. That said Republic would become the economic engine of the world. And the so called “Enlightened” states would start to collapse under the weight of their regressive economic policies. That the takers would bleed you dry. And it would happen quickly. That blue America would become 3rd world within five years.

It’s fun to fantasize about a country that believes in liberty. The Constitution. A country that realizes its Govt is not the solution. That we would have the freedom to drink a bigger soft drink than 16ozs. That we could have 100 watt light bulbs and toilets that actually work. Where people would look at you funny if you said “holiday” tree. That has enforced borders and a sound immigration policy.

The more I think about the more I realize just how powerful such a country would become. Not through military might but because we believed in freedom. We would be the envy of the world. And the ironic part? The so-called “enlightened” states would have to realize that without us they could not survive.

    • JustAnAubie,

Amen! Now, don’t get too far ahead of me, I’m still composing the posts that address much of what you just hit on here. Keep the wolves at bay for me until my fingers can catch up to my brain and I can get things posted to show how this wonderful country based on Liberty can come from the wreck our Progressive friends have made from our founders’ first attempt 😉

  6. LOL. That’s fine Joe. Drop me an email and I’ll tell you the part I left out. It would be a game changer nobody saw coming> I could be wrong but I think I’m right

    • JustAnAubie,

Happy to, except the system isn’t showing me an email address or even a profile for you. Me, on the other hand, I’m not hard to find. black3actual at that yahoo place will reach me 😉

  7. My response here, seems appropriate to the conversation here as well.

“Now, can you tell me how we extricate ourselves from the grasp of the tyrants in Washington — BOTH the Democrat AND Republican tyrants, that is?”

It begins with (and we are already seeing it happening), state legislators filing lawsuits against federal mandates … both against the individual, and the state itself. (examples: Obamacare, and Federal Highway speeds)

Through these lawsuits, a clear distinction between general concerns of the nation at large (national government – ie, national defense), and particular concerns of the individual citizen (state government – ie, Welfare, and entitlements among others). State legislators are the tribunes of the people, and Congressional legislators are the tribunes of the states.

    We’ve forgotten these things.

“Our Country is too large to have all its affairs directed by a single government.”
    —Thomas Jefferson

States need to stop selling out to the Federal Government — remember how we got that federal mandated 55mph law to begin with? Yep, you guessed it. States accepted federal money for highway maintenance, but at what cost? A federal mandate.

Additionally, states themselves can move forward with their own agendas through legislation, and these legislators should invite federal officials to appear before them to explain any new regulations or mandates that would effect the state … and it should be done out in the open under the scrutiny of the citizens of that state. Remember, legislation was intended to be slow, and deliberate.

Cooperation with neighboring states. Regardless of what the big government folks tell you, states can work together for the betterment of all states. That craziness going on between California and Arizona is utterly unnecessary. In diametric opposition to that example, Arizona and Texas are quite cooperative … without a Federal mandate to do so. One area that states can cooperate would be in dealing with the federal governments dumping of thousands of regulations in to the Federal Register for public notice, and commentary. That register in my mind, is no longer the sufficient vehicle for passing mass regulations, and state legislators could, and should cooperate to send that message to Washington.

    • @Augger,

“States need to stop selling out to the Federal Government ”

Yes. We need reps at the local level who are willing to stand up and say, no, we do not need the federal money. That especially applies to federal funding of schools.

“legislators should invite federal officials to appear before them to explain any new regulations or mandates that would effect the state”

Exactly. Why is it that whenever we hear about a new program, it is always on a glossy brochure and is in the final stages of being passed before we even know what is happening? Why is it that so often our representatives act like agents of the federal government? The only good representative is a cautious, recalcitrant representative.

  8. Augger: “Regardless of what the big government folks tell you, states can work together for the betterment of all states.”

Years ago, I took a class on “regionalism.” The main idea was, state borders are arbitrary, contrived and make for bad policy. There was talk of dividing the nation up into “regions,” kind of like Canada.

Perhaps the US could be divided this way, grouping states together, maintaining state sovereignty but creating regional capitals to deal with regional problems.

This book offers a possible map.

  9. Well, Jeff …most of the States you ridicule are in much better financial shape than California, going bankrupt, Illinois , going bankrupt, NY, going bankrupt and when we leave you can take your worthless Obama dollars and see how much they buy you . The latest Federal budget deficit for October 2012 was 22% HIGHER than October 2011. Yeh, your usurper is really taking the Country in the right direction …..straight to BANKRUPTCY. We want off the marxist progressive train going over the cliff. And Clemson University is 1000 times better than those lame Ivy league schools that gave us Obama, Hillary , Slick Willie and the CEO that wrecked Enron. Those schools, Harvard, Yale, Princeton are exactly why our government is SO SCREWED UP…..ditto the left wing media…which is full of their ignorant graduates that look the other way while are Country is destroyed.

    • “Well, Jeff …most of the States you ridicule are in much better financial shape than California, going bankrupt, Illinois , going bankrupt, NY, going bankrupt and when we leave you can take your worthless Obama dollars and see how much they buy you.”

Funny observation — all the states listed here are all liberally controlled states. 🙂

  10. Yes! Only one problem with this theology. We already had a cival war. That defined us as United States, therefore we can’t succeed. I’m afraid this will not happen succession or not with out another cival war…..

    • ===Yes! Only one problem with this theology. We already had a cival war. That defined us as United States, therefore we can’t succeed. I’m afraid this will not happen succession or not with out another cival war…..===

If that is the case, then the War of Norther Aggression ended the nation our founders built as well as any claim we can ever have to individual rights and liberty. If what you say is true, it even ended the Constitution and any argument we have against Obama and even against direct democracy. In fact, if what you say is true, then the War of Norther Aggression did not end slavery, it codified it for all time — because it is slavery for the minority to be told it MUST provide for the sustenance of the majority and that it has no right or reason to object.

I, on the other hand, still believe in the ideals and principles espoused in the Declaration, and they say we most certainly DO have a right to secede. It’s just that too few of us really want to be free badly enough to pay the cost.
