The Sorry State of the American Left

Here is another shinning example of the failure in both our schools and universities as well as that which passes for “news media” in this nation:

Secession petitions filed in 20 states

Of course, this is mostly a symbolic gesture. The odds of the American government granting any state permission to go its own way are on par with winning the lottery while getting hit by a meteor while seeing Bigfoot while finding gluten-free pizza that tastes like the real thing.

Rather than address the reason why some citizens may feel the drastic measure of secession is actually warranted, the author of this piece chooses to insert his editorial commentary by mockingly berating the people signing these petitions while scoffing at the very idea. What’s more, Krumboltz betrays hi total ignorance as to who controls who: the States or the Federal government. The States do not need the federal governments “permission” to secede; that right is inherent in the FACT that the several States are recognized — BY THE CONSTITUTION — as sovereign.

The people in our media and on the American Left would do well to understand that this is NOT about “hate,” “racism,” “sour grapes” or any of the other convenient excuses they are feeding to themselves. It is about opposition to the growing tyranny coming from their side of the political spectrum.

Incidentally, for those who may be interested: Yesterday, my post on Florida seceding from the union drew 434 unique views. Today, it has drawn more than 640. That’s more than the Rule 5 posts — combined. I have never seen that on the RNL. Usually, a post never does as well as the first day it is posted. The only exception seems to be Augger’s post on male vs female circumcision. So, in spite of what our resident Leftists would like to believe, it would appear that America does not view the issue of secession is as a “trivial” a matter after all.

Make that 1,074 unique views: less than 100 fewer than the home page views.  This is the first time I have ever seen a non-Rule 5 post generate this sort of interest on the RNL — ever!  I would say this is a strong indicator as to the mood of the nation — and it aint good.

  1. “The only exception seems to be Augger’s post on male vs female circumcision.”

Yet another reason why I should have never posted that. 😦

  2. “The people in our media and on the American Left would do well to understand that this is NOT about “hate,” “racism,” “sour grapes” or any of the other convenient excuses they are feeding to themselves.”
no it’s more about people wanting to be ABLE to feed themselves….

    • I like your blog. It’s good to see a journalism student who can see through liberalism. It also is annoying that liberals have co-opted a lot of common-sense stuff like healthy eating and exercise, which creates the illusion that conservatives are just lazy slobs. Did that make sense? Am I reading you right?

      • Justin,

Be careful, please. I am not trying to be rude, but she is from the UK. Liberalism means something entirely different here than it does over there. It may not necessarily be a “bad” thing to be a liberal in the European sense. Beckie’s reference to Western civilization may well point to CLASSIC LIBERALISM, in which case, it is a good thing.

        just saying 🙂

      • Agreed. However, there’s a contradiction involved, the western and liberal government promote healthy eating, yet we build more and more money making franchises such as Mcdonalds. Agree?

        • @Beckie: That is the corollary of what I was saying. Yes, I am glad to hear I am not the only one.

My argument would go something like this:

Due to popular support, government attempts to mandate healthy eating. The policies, difficult to follow, discourage good people with good growing and business philosophies from getting started. As a result, the survivors in this over-regulated system, so focused on the bottom line in a difficult regulatory situation, end up giving us bottom of the barrel, low quality ‘food.’ In short, high-minded government ideals results in over-regulation which removes the ‘heart and soul’ from our food.

Many look to, say, Monsanto as the quintessential ‘evil corporation,’ but if we look to the roots of Monsanto, I believe we will find a lot of insider lobbyists and Washington appointees, working the system and the USDA in their favor. Slick politicians distract people from realizing that government is the root of the problem, not the solution.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, but, then again, my conservative persona has a streak of hippie. 🙂

          • Brilliant ideology. I have no argument against, only agreement. The price of a bag of salad is the same as a cheeseburger, yet I believe the cost of manufacture surely differs. I think I’d rather contribute my money to a hard working farmer then the corporate villains of western businesses.

    • “Agrees. Will the entire world adopt the liberal/western system.”

On the contrary. It would appear that the American youth are striving to reach the European socialism utopia that they think exists across the pond.

    First of all, Wow.

Secondly, you might want to consider a secessionist themed Rule #5.

  4. So- does no one actually realize it is up to their STATE governments to secede?

And sure- good by red states. THEN there will be democratic support for an inpenetrable border!

And lets see- The states that add the most to the nations GDP are overwhelmingly Democratic states. (of the top 20 3 states are red and another 3 are pink or purple.

32 states spend more federal dollars then they put in- 21 of which are red. And 8 of the top ten, with the other two being bery reddish shades of blue (new mexico and virginia).

Let’s see- red states also overwhelmingly lead in the number of minimum wage jobs. Percentage of population too poor to pay federal income tax. Percent of population in prison. Gun violence. Children living in poverty. Drop out rate. Domestic violence. Child abuse. Number of hate groups.

So please- don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out…

    • Drugs, here’s one you might enjoy that was forwarded to me by someone else (for entertainment purposes; I can’t judge the accuracy of the numbers without doing more research than is worth the time, and I don’t know who “Jeff” is):

      Dear Red States:

We’re ticked off at your Neanderthal attitudes and politics and we’ve decided we’re leaving.

We in the Blue States intend to form our own country .

In case you aren’t aware that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and the rest of the Northeast.

We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially to the people of the new country of The Enlightened States of America (E.S.A).

      To sum up briefly:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get Bobby Jindal and Todd Akin.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.

We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country’s fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95% of America’s quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the US low sulphur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

We’re taking the good weed too. You can have that crap they grow in Mexico.

Citizen of the Enlightened States of America and Jeff

      • DEAL! — So long as you guys don’t try to sneak in when you fail and we succeed — which we will — because, unlike you guys now, we will defend our borders from hostile invaders.

You see, what is overlooked in all of that is that this attitude toward the red States describes this nation when we found it, and it was the attitude of the red States that tamed it and gave you all that you now try to lay claim. But, once we separate, it is we with the pioneering spirit who will prevail and you who will fail — and history has shown it is ever the case. Or haven’t you looked across the pond lately? 😉

    • @drugs: Veronique de Rugy has a good question for you: Why would you, as a blue state ideologist continue to vote to have your resources transferred away from your state?

Why would voters in red states elect lawmakers who promise them small government when they benefit disproportionately from federal handouts? Why would voters in blue states elect lawmakers who support policies that redistribute their income to red states?

And I would love to see your data on your other claims since Chicago is a liberal haven in a liberal state and it is the murder capital of the US.

By the way, if you are going to use the argument of who supports whom, does that mean that since I pay more taxes than you, Professor McProgressive and the Commie Crustacean combined, that I can tell you what to do?

      • Oooooooo. i like my new nickname. I might post it in my header. Thanks!

I am in a red state I’m afraid, so it’s not surprising you pay more taxes than me. Most of us in the red states are dirt poor, and sort are poor dirt farmers.

If only we red states weren’t so corrupt and shortsighted we might get our act together and invest in educations, and infrastructures and not have to rely on them blue states no more. . . but if we became edumacated and affluent we probably wouldn’t be Republican’s anymore either, so i do see the sense in keeping us, fat, dumb, lazy and bound together by dirt roads, guns, religion and racism.

When you suck, its always good to have somoene else to blame that sucks more than you and a lot easier than trying to fix things. (Republican Proverb)

  5. That’s just a few random idiots that hardly represent the majorities of their states. New York and Oregon? Please. . . All you’ve done is show how the right has become the party of taking the ball and going home if they don;t get everything their way.

    • Better to take your ball and go home, than to threaten, strong arm, and force your balls down someone else’s throat. Right?

        • “True, but why are they doing both? That can’t be comfortable for anyone.”

I dunno man. Maybe you should ask Salazar, and Obama. The past 48 years have seemed a bit, um, “testy” for them. Are the politicians, or MMA fighters? 🙂
