  1. My father in law who passed away earlier this year was born in Chicago. He Shared when I asked;

    “It took a week or two before we all “heard” about it. As soon as we heard, my friends and I all went down to join the Army. There were lines down the street and around the block. Recruiters walked down the line and gave us a date (appointment) to come back to join about two or three weeks later. I went back on my assigned day, joined, and in January boarded a train for boot camp outside St. Louis. From there it was a train to Dallas Love Field Army Air Corp base. Then to San Antonio before shipping out from California for the South Pacific. The next time I saw my parents was after the war in winter of 45′.
