Amazing clarity on the current gun debate…no surprise he is from Utah…

Monster Hunter Nation

I didn’t want to post about this, because frankly, it is exhausting. I’ve been having this exact same argument for my entire adult life. It is not an exaggeration when I say that I know pretty much exactly every single thing an anti-gun person can say. I’ve heard it over and over, the same old tired stuff, trotted out every single time there is a tragedy on the news that can be milked. Yet, I got sucked in, and I’ve spent the last few days arguing with people who either mean well but are uninformed about gun laws and how guns actually work (who I don’t mind at all), or the willfully ignorant (who I do mind), or the obnoxiously stupid who are completely incapable of any critical thinking deeper than a Facebook meme (them, I can’t stand).

Today’s blog post is going to be aimed at the first group…

  1. That was an interesting article, but actually everything he said has been said here on TRNL. One post in the comment section stood out though (paraphrased);

The shooter broke 47 existing laws perpertrating this crime. Would a 48th (new law) have stopped him?

Of course, the answer is no. This attack on this school was planned and carried out without regard to any laws.

    • I’m glad you directed us to the comments. One boy posted stats in his comment to another:

      Hi Amy –

I culled data from Britain’s version of the FBI uniform crime stats.

For 2011, the UK had a violent crime rate of 3844.92 per 100k.
For 2011, the US had a violent crime rate of 386.3 per 100k.

For comparison inside the US, Washington DC and Chicago, Il, beloved of liberals for their strict gun control, had the following stats:

      Violent crime rate: 1130.26 per 100k (Nat’l: 386.3 per 100k)
      Murder rate: 17.48 per 100k (Nat’l: 4.7 per 100k)

Violent crime rate: 1044.97 per 100k (note: Chicago doesn’t report rapes, so the VC rate isn’t an exact representation) (Nat’l: 386.3 per 100k)
      Murder rate: 15.94 per 100k (Nat’l: 4.7 per 100k)

  2. Well once again Utah, you beat me to the punch on this one. 🙂

Friends: many of you are not “gun people.” You may own a pistol/shotgun for self-defense, or hunt a bit, but you haven’t given the nuances of the issue very much thought.

    This guy has.

“This guy” is novelist Larry Correia… and he’s written about 10k words that fairly encapsulate the reality of the current post-Sandy-Hook debate. He’s a former “gun guy,” and discusses the reality of mass murder, and the history/feasibility of contemporary gun-control measures going back to the 1994 Clinton ban.

If you’re not really plugged-in to the current debate, or lack actual facts to help you frame/understand it, this article will help bring you up to speed. If you have 20-30 minutes, I recommend digesting it.

Don’t skim it. Read it for content. Read it for understanding. Do this, and you will immediately be head-and-shoulders above 99% of the people discussing this issue.
