Please take a moment to read this article – to really, carefully read it:
I would like you to reflect on what Pravda – the Russian media – is telling us about the fundamentals of liberty – especially the importance of the rule of law:
Basically, civilization can only happen when those with power respect the laws founded by mankind to prevent abuses…international law, the Geneva Convention, the UN Declaration of Human Rights are examples. The inviolability of borders, respect for one’s neighbors.
However, it just so happened that one powerful country went mad. Mad with the lust for power and resources. It decided that it is not bound by such laws. It decided that, like its capitalist social system, it would operate on the law of the jungle.
Setting aside that Pravda has just assumed the acceptance of many Marxist principles; this is still an accurate condemnation of what Western culture has become (though, admittedly, it seems to forget that Russia is a product of Western society). But then, there is nothing new in this observation. It merely points out something our founders learned from the Bible. The West has forgotten the spirit of the law. Jesus admonished the scribes and Pharisees for doing the same thing: forgetting the spirit of the law, and worse, harming the people by perverting the law and bending it to their own desires:
New International Version (NIV)
A Warning Against Hypocrisy
23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries[a] wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Christ’s admonishment applies to our leaders today as much as it did to those who lead Israel in his time. They are further echoed in the words of our own founders:
“It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is to-day, can guess what it will be to-morrow.”
–Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 62, 1788
“It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is today, can guess what it will be tomorrow. Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known, and less fixed?”
Our founders said similar things about the oppression of excess taxation – especially in connection to the excesses of government greed and power. The same thing Pravda is now telling us the West is doing to its people.
We can find many examples of how our leaders ignore and pervert the law, but Obama’s assertion that he intends to exceed his constitutional authority to ban weapons – an act which would be clearly in violation of the second amendment. This is not only an open violation of the rule of law, it is an act of tyranny. That both of these things have been pointed out by Pravda and not by the Western media is all the more telling of the state of decay in Western society.
Whether you chose to believe that it is the word of God or not, the Bible is an accurate history of earl man and one of the central themes that repeats over and over again in the Bible is that men struggle to set themselves free from tyranny, then they become corrupt, they turn away from God’s natural law and then they fall back into tyranny. The ancients knew this pattern; our founders understood this pattern; now Pravda is the messenger who has to remind and warn us about this pattern and how it works:
And the world has changed…ended as we know it because people remain largely silent, perhaps turned into zombies by a Goebbels-like corporate media. They remain apathetic while the world as we knew it, civilization, is collapsing around them.
They might only wake up when the savages are knocking on their door. When the unbridled terrorism personally affects them. When their wives and daughters are raped, have their breasts cut off. When their sons are castrated, beheaded. When their homes are burned to the ground or they are evicted from them.
Until then, it’s just happening to someone else. Nothing can be done about it.
Pravda ends its piece with these words, and I quote them now because – honestly – I couldn’t explain what is at stake any better than the Russians have:
So the question is, will 2013 take us back to those values so treasured by our forefathers or will we continue to allow our world to end. Will we allow civilization and the respect for law to end? Do we really think the law of the jungle..the bomb bay door and the barrel of the gun is the way we want to live in 2013?
[To those who think that America is immune from the greatest force driving human history – that of human nature – let me ask you this question: if the rest of the world understands that we have become a clear and present danger to their security (and we have), do you think they will just sit back and let us have our way with them as we have let our govt. have its way with us, or do you think they might try to defend themselves?]
