In Any Other Time, We’d Be In A Depression

Do you realize what this story is actually about?

First Term: Americans ‘Not in Labor Force’ Increased 8,332,000

( – The number of Americans age 16 or older who decided not to work or even to seek a job increased by 8,332,000 to a record 88,839,000 in President Barack Obama’s first term, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

At the same time, the number of retired workers collecting Social Security increased by only 4,234,480.

Well, the first thing we need to understand is that not all of these people “decided” not to look for a job. the government just declared them to have quit looking. But then, why should they look? the government is making it easy to live without having to work. And, once you accept government dependency, you become a slave to the government and an all but guaranteed vote for the Party that promises to give you just one morsel or barbel more than the last.

But setting all that aside, if we counted unemployment the way we used to — before our corrupt government changed the formula to suit their propaganda needs — we would be in one of if not the worst depression this nation has even known. You just don’t see it because the media controls the narrative and the government is redistributing just enough from the producers to keep people from having to live in shanty towns.

If we were a nation of people who valued honesty, both with the world and ourselves, we wouldn’t stand for any of this. But, alas, we are no longer that nation, and along with the loss of our national sense of righteousness and honor, we’ve lost that insulation that once shielded us from the repetitive cycles of history. But no more. Unless we turn back and turn back now, we will soon be Greece — or worse.

    • Thumbs down me all you please, ding-dong dummies…….and then do the math! Oooh, sorry; I do beg your pardon…….jes had to come in and incorporate some math flashcards for ya. If you think unemployment is at 7.8%, I’ve got a boat to sail you to China for a loan! Now, let’s talk about gold……it ain’t stayin here my sweets….great article from M. on that…..

  1. It’s not that they’ve quit looking for work. I know many of my husband’s construction buddies from the Lower 48 are still sending out resumes and taking an occasional short call with their locals. It’s that their unemployment has stopped paying out. They are the true long-term unemployed, not those just drawing extended benefits. A lot of them are working off the books as handy men or day laborers. Some of them have spouses who have jobs that are playing the bills. And, then there’s the recently graduated college students and high school graduates who have never held a job, so aren’t counted in the statistics.

I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago (and can’t find the link) that that long-term unemployment rate including the never worked who want to brings us to about 20% of the working age, work-willing population being out of work. That’s Great Depression level unemployment after Roosevelt did his huge aid packages. What was that about a failure to learn from history?

    • aurora — you do realize it is by design that this administration removes their numbers from the unemployment totals?

Yep, skew the numbers, get re-elected, and damn the citizens. Then stand with your head held high, like a roman emperor, with a smug look on your face.

      That’s the Obama way.
