Stupidity and Rejection of Constitution on the Left Best Reason for Restricting Voting Rights

OK, I’m pretty sure most of us have seen this already:

More Modern Way of Living

Beaufort, N.C.
Jan. 17, 2013

Republicans and “so-called” conservatives are at it again. They are claiming that the Constitution gives people the right to have guns without the permission of the government. If that were true, then how could New York and Chicago have laws against it?
We Democrats are sick and tired of Republicans constantly using the Constitution to cover up their true plans, which are to make us all afraid of everyone else. Our great president came from a civilized part of the country where there is strict gun control, and he is only trying to bring the benefits of that more modern way of living to the rest of us. I don’t know the exact statistics, but I’m quite certain that Chicago is a lot safer that Morehead City, when it comes to gun violence.

But do Republicans and conservatives listen to the voice of reason? No, of course not. All they want to do is whine and complain about how gun control and wealth redistribution violate the Constitution, as if the Constitution were all that great, anyway. There are a lot of things that need to be changed about the Constitution, I’d say, and President Obama needs to change it.

The Republicans are just trying to stand in the way, because the president is black. They even dared to question whether he was born in this country. I think all this demonstrates that the Constitution needs to be amended when it comes to the qualifications for being president. Right now, it says that a person has to be 35 years old and be a natural born citizen. Well, that is obviously unfair because there are a great many otherwise qualified people who cannot run for president because their mothers had to have a C-section. But because the Constitution was written a hundred years ago, nobody even thought of the discrimination that would result from a doctor having to deliver a baby in this unnatural way. Now that we Democrats are in control of the government, that’s just one more thing we should change in our drive to make life fair.

Please withhold my name because I don’t want to get crank calls.

OK, well, I took about 30 minutes to look into this and what I found was interesting.  First, the search page that points to the original paper in which this letter was reported to have been published reports as “page not found.”  However, I did find a page on this paper’s official site that has responses to this letter.  I read several pages of them and didn’t find a single denial from the paper’s staff.  I also tried to search for evidence that this letter is an internet fake or hoax.  While it may be out there, I didn’t find any evidence that this is the case.  In fact, I found evidence suggesting that sources such as the Free republic and FOX News actually authenticated it.  So you can draw your own conclusions.

As for me, I do not doubt that this letter is real – because I’ve met people who actually think this way.  This is the result of our public education system AND our news media.  This is also a strong case for amending the Constitution to require ownership of real property or service in the military – during a time of armed conflict – in order to earn the right to vote.  Otherwise, there will always be more people like this writer than like those of us who try to keep well enough informed to actually make intelligent and informed decisions about our government.

  1. Someone tell me why this wouldn’t work. (I already know it will never happen, because if it did there would never be another democrate elected to any office).
Using computer voting machines, each voter would pull the curtain, then be given a 10 question civics test on the screen. They would answer, then the computer would move on to the voting screens. When the person finished they would hit “done” and leave the booth. If they didn’t get at least 7 of the 10 questions right, their vote wouldn’t be counted. If they got better than 7 it would. They could never claim racism or any other “ism” because they would have to admit they didn’t know any of the answers.

    • nco,

It wouldn’t work for the same reason people can vote straight R and have their “electronic” vote registered as straight D’s. Electronic voting is subject to systemic voter fraud — and this has been proven to the point of not being in question — at least, not by the intellectually honest, anyway.

  2. Thank God! A subject I was going to Blog about. Absolutely we need restrictions on voting rights! But first we need to educate people on WHY. Otherwise, we are swimming up stream without a paddle.

I have stories from my dad about how the left pushed this issue of ‘voting at 18’ and all I can think of is, if we stop the Tea Party movement for Conservative ideas and principals based on our founding, taking back these stupid ideas by co-opting them and reversing them it is OVER!

The only way to reverse them is by taking back our educational system.
Then re-educating people as to why voting at 18 is irrational.

Last is creating a system which requires an educated responsibility to choose your law makers. When people understand these guidelines and voting requirements we will prevail against Progressives.

    Voting Requirements
    – We study driving and take a test, why not voting?
    – I would bring back the property ownership requirement, you must own NOT rent to vote! I can be as simple as a plot of land.
    – PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP and MUST be shown at the time of voting!
    – You MUST be a natural born citizen OR have been naturalized for “X” number of years. I say 10 but 2 would be better than this crap!

And, if you are reading this and laughing you are laughing in vain. Some day there will be rules on this order because it will be required to save the country.

    • PoliTec,

The subject of restricting voter rights is how I got my first radio gig. They scheduled 30 minutes and it went 2 hours. The subject dominated the local host’s show for the rest of the week. I’m proud to say I held my own (with a little help from the founders 😉 )

  3. I recall that it was landowners who were allowed to vote. Was there an age requirement? Also, I’m curious if any of the French who relocated to America after the war were allowed to vote….

  4. On election day in 2008 my husband and I realized we had forgotten to main in our ballots so we took them over to our polling place. The poll worker who took our ballots had on an Obama t-shirt! It’s clear to us the US elections have become a total sham. BTW, lots of illegal aliens vote here too.

    • The “requirements” need to be more stringent … notive the Requirement discussions above have all been Positive requirements…..what you know….proff of Citizenship etc…

These are good things…..NON-felon should be a minalmist requirement…..included with the poistive requirements above.

      • Don,

If we are to live according to natural law, once a person has paid his/her debt to society, then why must that debt stay with them the rest of their life? If their crime is that bad that they should be punished for life, then they should be put to death. Otherwise, once you do your time…

  5. This is obviously satire, people, get with the program. Even Snopes has debunked it.

I am also always amused at the statement, “I know people on the left who are exactly like this.” This is commonly used in reference to the most absurd references so as to give them false credence (e.g., “Liberals love abortions, they think all women should use them as a form of birth control! I have met many liberals who think exactly that way!”). Funny thing is, I’m a liberal, have known hundreds of liberals, and have discussed politics with perhaps thousands ever since the 1980s (have been an avid participant in online forums since before most people knew what Usenet was)… and yet I have never met any of these people that conservatives always claim to have met. Never. There are lots of liberals who are jerks (remember that asshat who drove up to the Chick-Fil-A in his Prius and insulted the server?), many liberals who are idiots (Rosie O’Donnell and Harry Reid are a few choice examples), I have no trouble recognizing these and wishing they would go away. But the people in these statements I hear conservatives swearing up and down they have met are either incredibly rare, simply made-up, a phantom more the result of the biases and expectations of the listener, or–probably, like this article–examples of satire which are misunderstood.

The fact that you believed the article to be real is evidence of this; there is so much in the piece to mark it clearly as satire, and yet you accept it as authentic–and probably will use this as a future example of how you know liberals to be like this.

I mean really, you guys have such bizarre assumptions about liberals, you’ll believe almost anything. Remember when The Onion published a piece on “Planned Parenthood’s $8 billion Abortionplex”? One of the most ridiculously obvious pieces of satire? A startling number of conservatives actually believed that to be true–including a Republican congressman from Louisiana!

Come out of the bubble, guys.

    • I went to college. I was in the philosophy AND sociology departments. As the only (then) “conservative” in these departments, I WAS “affirmative action.” I assure you, I have met the people you claim to have never met. And for you to pretend they are some sort of mythical creature is to ignore objective reality:

And some of them even hold high political office:
