But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
– Luke 12:48
This is the retirement post. I feel that I owe the readers of this blog my reasons for my upcoming absence. I had previously stated that upon returning to the US, I would be engaged in a job search and that the recruitment professionals that I am working with had indicated that a posting, much less running, political blog of this nature, one where my identity was known and my strong opinions was evident was perhaps not the best for a new company to see…and companies do look to the Internet to find out about prospective hires, especially at the level that I am pursuing.
But that is not the only reason.
Truth be told, I have become ever more increasingly cynical, despondent and distressed about the direction of our country since the election last year. I feel so strongly that we are on the wrong track that I get angry and physically sick at the sight and sound of our radical President on TV or radio. I have never in my life hated anyone…but I think that I am coming to hate this man on a personal level. I used to believe that cowards like him who call themselves “progressives” to hide the fact that they are nothing but communists with better PR actually wanted what is right for the country and its people but there has been little evidence of that in the last 6 years of Democrat rule.
We do have a “progressive” government that, along with the public sector unions have built a protection racket around state and national political office that makes Boss Tweed and his Tammany Hall boys look like pikers. We now have formerly trusted and legitimate organizations and agencies like the offices of our prosecutorial offices, metropolitan police departments and the DEA that have taken on fascistic, militarist and extra-legal dimensions through things like selective enforcement of laws, “no-knock” raids, illegitimate property confiscation and constant video surveillance. It seems that there isn’t a day that goes by that actions aren’t prosecuted that are so egregious that even the media has to report them.
We have Supreme Court Justices who openly question the validity of our Constitution and supposed Constitutional scholars publicly calling for us to ignore it.
We have a sick society that encourages violence against people for their political beliefs, to the point that they cheer a murdering former policeman as if he was some kind of folk hero because they agree with his political views and blindly believe that that the people he has killed somehow deserved to die simply because he is aggrieved. We have a society that celebrates death – abortion – to the point where a “writer” named Erin Gloria Ryan, writing at media outlet Jezebel, actually pens an article titled: “What’s The Best Age To Have An Abortion?” A large percentage of our population has abandoned God – or at least votes that way. Our society cannot even call illegal aliens “illegal” and these are people who broke the law by just being here regardless of their circumstances.
We have a particular political class who defines bi-partisanship and negotiation as agreeing with everything that they want to do and a federal government so strong and holding so many purse strings that it is nearly impossible to resist. This is one thing that “progressives” have always understood – once one of their ideals is enshrined in law, it will never be eliminated. What has resulted is a political structure that corrupts all regardless of party of ideology. It only serves itself. Its legislation and administrative laws are not designed to protect freedoms, they are designed to pit individual against individual, group against group in a never ending political miasma to distract from their true purpose – which is first, foremost and exclusively directed at its self-preservation an perpetuation.
Our monetary system is a sham. Once the government realized that it could perpetuate a veritable Ponzi scheme in regards to social programs and pensions to kick the can down the road to their grandchildren and just crank up the printing presses to cover this malfeasance, the game was over. Our debt load is unsustainable – we owe over $1.2 trillion to the Communist Chinese. We are buying our own debt in a circular scheme of worthless bonds and Treasury notes that are nothing but a license to print more money (that is based on nothing but the lint in the bottom of Uncle Sam’s pocket).
We now have a power mad political culture that will lie, cover-up, stonewall or simply ignore any evidence that contradicts what they want reality to be and sadly, this is the level of performance that we have come to expect and tolerate. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard the statement that “politicians lie, that’s who they are”, delivered without remorse or disgust…verbalized as much as matter of fact as if people were talking about the weather.
The evidence of this is legion. The best that reformers have been able to do is to slow growth of government, since the days of Wilson, Teddy Roosevelt and FDR, government – federal, state and local has never receded as more and more power was siphoned off from the state and local government and was ensconced the central authority of the federal government. It is too big to fail.
The facts at hand prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that these so called “progressives” are engaged in a planned strategic and tactical assault on America and plan to remake it in the image of a centrally planned, communist state.
But they won’t be able to get it there.
There are too many people who still value freedom like Dr. Ben Carson, too many companies like those of the much demonized Koch Industries, Chick-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby who will stand on principle to stop the collectivist inertia that has built up over the last many years. There are too many people who understand the importance of the Second Amendment and too many people who live outside the major metropolitan areas of the country who do not depend on government services to do everything for them, including the wiping of their dirty arses.
While there are enough of us to stop a total conversion, the 2012 presidential election indicated that there are too many who believe that they will benefit from the institutional theft of individual productivity and independence that a communist state requires to unwind the “progressive” state that has been being constructed over the past century.
We can’t go forward and we can’t go back, at least not in a political sense, so where does that leave us?
The answer that I have deduced from history and our current direction is my greatest fear – and I can see it becoming a reality.
History teaches that nations caught in such a double bind always tend to drift toward a quasi-authoritarian form of government and an attendant society built around what the government allows rather than true freedom. Citizens will do what they do because government allows it, not because they are free to do as they choose. Government is worshiped as the patrician and munificent “provider”. What emerges from situations like ours is a corporatist, fascistic, statolatrist nation where conformity is valued over creativity, compliance over independence and obedience over innovation.
Perhaps the greatest lie of “progressivism” is that an individual can determine their own destiny and that government is only there to assure that you are equal. Even a basic understanding of mathematics destroys this fabrication but people who aren’t capable of achieving (for whatever reason) love to believe it is true. In “progressive” societies, the individual is meaningless when compared to the collective and therefore individual desires, dreams and self-determination must be sacrificed at the altar of “equality” in order that no other person feel bad about being incapable…and since their productivity isn’t as valuable as yours, the government will take a share of your productivity and give it to them – for the purposes of “equality”, of course…and who determines what is “equal”? Why, the faceless and nameless bureaucrats in government, that’s who. It is inevitable that the government will attempt to progress beyond just taking taxes, they will eventually decide to put quotas on the number of engineers, doctors, brick masons and garbage workers as they determine what the collective society needs…
It is Orwell’s “1984“, Huxley’s “Brave New World“, Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” and Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” all rolled into one.
I can’t see how this ends well…because it never has. I can’t see a denouement that doesn’t include a total collapse of our government and our society and a rebuild from scratch. I don’t think that it is outside the realm of possibility that the USA could be invaded by a coalition of other nations as this internecine socio-political warfare weakens us financially and militarily.
See what I mean? My anger and cynicism is eating me alive. My words and actions have been nothing but a salve to my own wounded sense of what America means to me. I’m constantly angry and that robs me of my ability to think logically. I started this blog to try to bring some positivity and hope through my writing but today I must admit that I have never in my life felt so helpless and hopeless – not for me, I’ll be OK no matter what happens – but for my children (who are just getting started) and my grandchildren (as yet born). They are the recipients of the fallout of the political nuclear winter we have created.
My focus is now to do everything that I can to prepare my family and loved ones for what I believe is the end of America – at least the one I grew up with. I’m teaching them skills that I learned as a boy, shifting large portions of my financial holdings to land and gold and away from stocks and government backed instruments.
This is why I’m done. I can’t see any actual progress – I only see the regressive state of “progressivism”…and no way to stop it.
