Creating an Irrational Fear of Guns

This report from Houston indicates that the anti-Second Amendment forces have succeeded in creating fear of legal gun possession:

A Splendora woman is sharing her story about what happened on date night with her husband in Kingwood Thursday night.

The McGuire’s went to an evening showing of “Olympus Has Fallen.”

Nickii McGuire had to make a restroom run mid-movie. That’s when she saw a suspicious man walk into the Showbiz Cinema on Northpark Drive near Highway 59.

“I instantly got an unsettling feeling just looking at the man,” said Nickii McGuire. “He had this bulge underneath the jacket on the left side and you could tell he was using this arm to cup and hold it.”

She kept watching and eventually spotted a gun.

“There’s a million things that run through your mind right at that moment,” said McGuire. “When you’re put in a situation that you have no control over.”

She called out for a manager and reported what she saw.

“People are nervous and I think they have a right to be nervous,” said Showbiz coordinator Ted Mandel.

Mandel says an officer at the theater found the patron and frisked him.

“The cop found the guy and checked that he had a concealed handgun license and escorted him out of the building,” Mandel said. “The guy was quite embarrassed because knew the rules [and] he didn’t mean to have the pistol.”

But note that he had a legal license to carry.

But that doesn’t matter because the grand manipulators of society have created a perception where the mere presence of a gun is cause for abject fear.

No police report was filed, but McGuire said the officer also found a knife on the man and she questions what his real intentions could have been.

OMG. He had a knife, too. Who knows what he might have really been planning? How about protecting himself or others from a criminal act and maybe peel an apple afterwards?

This pretty much describes me every day. I carry a Gerber folding knife with a 3″ blade…I’ve carried a pocket knife just about every day of my life from the time I got my first Tuf-Nut pair of jeans (they came with a knife). If this woman saw me in my pickup on my farm in Mississippi, she would think that I’m a terrorist.

“We live in a scary world,” said McGuire. A world that makes you wanna become a hermit because you don’t know you never know.

11 News’ Tiffany Craig asked, “Do you think you’re a little paranoid?”

When asked if she was being a little paranoid, McGuire said, “Oh yeah, now I am. I told my husband that I couldn’t go to sleep last night.”

Theater officials said the man had nothing illegal on him, so he wasn’t ticketed or arrested. His name was not released.

The video doesn’t help this woman’s case. She looks like someone who really, really wants a little attention.

Glenn Beck says that the anti-gun left is trying to create an irrational fear of guns – I think he is right.

But then Beck and the NRA are in town and these kind of fear mongering reports are in vogue right now.

  1. Guy probably was new to concealed carry. You get better at it with practice. The idea is that people don’t know. 🙂

    • What? There were guns in that?

I must have missed them in between all the explosions…

I liked the movie, by the way…

      • I’d never heard of it, so I googled the synopsis. From what I understand, a terrorist kidnaps the president. (The unspoken truth is, Olympus probably sold the weapon (s) to him and/or paid for his education, housing, food, Mercedes, &c.)

Meanwhile, the fella in the theatre is a law abiding citizen who pays his taxes and would most likely come to the rescue of this lovely damsel in distress. I suppose she could repay him with her goat….

  2. This is one of the things you will get when people have no education on firearms (sorry I can’t call them anything else, boot camp trauma, some will understand). The NRA has many firearm education programs including Eddie the Eagle for kids. A lack of firearm education is also at the heart of firearm accidents and kids never learning that once you pull that trigger, there is pulling it back and saying you didn’t mean it. Now as far as this incident goes, if I saw the guy, I would think three things. First, a robbery is going down. Second, another Colorado shooter is on the loose. Third, this is a police officer looking for someone and I don’t want to be in the crossfire, so I don’t think she is that paranoid.
