Mother’s Day 2013

I was thinking about my mom and my mother-in-law today. My mom passed on August 15 of 2004 after a very long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. There is so much I miss about my mom and her family, my uncles Van, Jiggs, Sammie and my aunt Lucille are all gone now, only my aunt Elizabeth survives. This was the family I grew up with, hunting and fishing in rural north Mississippi. I miss them very much – but I see them in the faces of the children, grand children and great grandchildren they left behind.

In 1994, my young family and my in-laws made a trip to southern Utah – to places, once witnessed, put life in perspective. How anyone could stand in the presence of such majesty and not see the hand of an Almighty God is beyond me…I just wanted to post a few pictures from this trip…

My mother-in-law suddenly passed on October 25, 1999, a very short 5 years after this trip. She succumbed to a very, very rare form of cancer, so rare that there was no treatment for it. I would like to think that this was one of the most memorable events in her life – she loved her grandchildren and to have shared this with them before she passed was a blessing to all of us. One of my greatest regrets in life is that she did not get to see what exceptional people her grandchildren have become and what a wonderful mother her daughter is to them.

Happy Mother’s Day to my wife, Debbie, to my mom, Marie and to my mother-in-law, Pat.

  1. Great Post Utah…..Thanks for that.

The Great State of Utah is in my Blood too … Both Literally and Spiritually.
