So What Is It? – Part II

I wrote in the last post:

It may surprise many, but I am open to an alternate explanation [for Islamic inspired terrorism]. I am open to accept that Islam is being used as a scapegoat, an excuse by radical factions. I am open to understanding that these atrocities are not committed by “real” Muslims. I am willing to entertain an alternate explanation of Islamic terrorism and I’ll have to admit – I don’t know what a “real” Muslim is any more than I know what a “real” Christian is. We don’t have any kind of test to take or a license to give to certify that I am a “real” Christian. What I do know is that I try (and fail) to treat people as I have been taught and believe Christ would act.

But I am left to wonder if those who defend Islam are ready to hear what I have to say…

So what if Islamic terrorism in America is a response to “progressivism” and American liberalism?

What if we considered that as a cause – that it really isn’t a reaction against Christianity at all but a rejection of the permissive culture that contemporary “progressives” claim is an extension of American freedom and an open society?

As an example, we do know for a fact that when Christians in America take a stand against the promotion of homosexuality, we are called bigots and homophobes – we now have a president who has “evolved” to belive in gay marriage.

We also know for a fact that homosexuals are publically stoned and hanged in Islamic countries like Iran.

So how do you think that something like this looks to the average, devout Muslim:

Cinema heavyweights Roman Polanski and Jim Jarmusch wrapped up the Cannes Film Festival race Saturday, as speculation raged whether a shockingly explicit lesbian love story could capture a top prize.

The audacious French coming-of-age tale “Blue Is the Warmest Colour” featuring hard-core sex between the lead actresses, remained the talk of the town as the competition ended with two more looks at unconventional couples.

Would this not represent the evil and decadence that fundamentalist Islam teaches against?

Modern “progressivism” and liberalism is not about true liberalism at all, it is about libertine behavior.

A libertine is one devoid of most moral restraints, which are seen as unnecessary or undesirable, especially one who ignores or even spurns accepted morals and forms of behavior sanctified by the larger society. Libertines place value on physical pleasures, meaning those experienced through the senses.

I think it somewhat incongruent that the defenders of Islam are the very same people who are the most incompatible with it. Hell, they even resist Christianity and modern Christianity is milquetoast as compared to Islam when it comes to enforcement of its tenets. The only reason that “progressives” defend Islam is that they see it as opposing a common enemy – Judeo-Christian tradition.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Maybe Islam isn’t at war with the West after all; maybe it is at war with the “progressives” in the west.

  1. Very thoughtful post…..

But BOTH islam and Progressivism are repressive Totalitarian ideologies !!

Then again the Soviet Socialists (Communists) and the German Socialists ( Nazis) were in a fight to the death weren’t they !?

  2. UTAH,
Add to your thought that Polanski is a convicted pedophile and sodomizer of children, and it adds even more wind to that sail.

    • Yes Ralph….and Polanski called Modern Women ..”Masculine”.

Cause of the Pill and all…..LOL……………..Lord save us from the Genius of the Left-wing Progressive European “Intellectuals”.

  3. Yesterday, I was reading on the EDL, and I got sidetracked and came across this article: This was written by a Muslim woman last year. She was outraged to a sign that read: 19,250 deadly Islamic attacks since 9/11/01. And counting. It’s not Islamophobia, it’s Islamorealism. Her article then went on to blame the right-wing for causing this hysteria.

This reminded me of your post because it appears the majority of Muslims in America are progressive democrats. Apparently, that was not the case in the 80’s and 90’s. Could it be that the younger generation are shifting their values? In a letter to the editor by Rezwan Haq, he is claiming to now be open to gay marriage.

I suppose I wonder if this could all be political. That said, the Tsarnaev brothers did not claim to hate the right or the left; they just hated America.
