The Eye Of Moloch

“The government has granted itself power it is not entitled to. There is no public oversight. The result is people like myself have the latitude to go further than they are allowed to.”

NSA program whistle blower, Edward Snowden revealed in the UK Guardian.

This is part and parcel of what we have been writing about and what F.A. Hayek documented. Without morality, there can be no trust, without trust there can be no self-governance, without self-governance there can be no liberty.

In a collectivist society, there can only be the morality of the leader and that means that today, there is no morality in government. The NSA, the IRS and the DOJ scandals demonstrate that the people in government were working to serve the goals of the ruling party and that requires that they adopt the morality of the leadership.

Look at what this gets us.

I don’t care if the data collection activities were legal under the Patriot Act or other justification, the people in power and in government have proven time and again that they cannot be trusted with the levers of power. We have this huge data mining operation ongoing for years and although it is alleged to have thwarted one terrorist attack, it didn’t thwart Major. Nidal Hassan or the Boston bombers.

  1. Utah: Hope you don’t mind but I will post the same thought here that I posted on other comments here.

The intrusiveness of this NSA data mining is directly indicated by the definition of ‘Terrorist’. Since our government refuses to define “terrorist” as Islamic one wonders if a broader definition as defined by Homeland Security
    is being used.

And yes it appears that the Government (Congress and Executive) has granted itself these powers, above The Constitution, with the complicity of the Courts.
