The Biblical Case Against Beck’s Claim to Be Christian

KNOW YOUR SCRIPTURE: The Real Jesus and the True Gospel

Many of you who follow my blog may be wondering why I am many other Christians say that Glenn Beck (and Mormons in general) are not Christian.  I can assure you, it is not because I think I can enforce my opinion upon another.  It is because Scripture tells me Mormons are not Christians.  If I were to accept Beck’s reasoning, then I would have to accept the argument that Muslims are Christians as well.  Mormons and Christians both claim to believe in Jesus as the Messiah, so, by this definition, they are ‘Christian.’  But this is no different from any of the attacks Beck has made against ‘Progressives’ for perverting the language to deceive the uniformed listener.  I do not want you to be uniformed, so, if you want to know why I know I am correct when I say Beck is not a Christian, please read the rest of this post. 1. This is where you go too far. The Islam religion as well as the Mormon religion may have manifested from pedophiles who wanted to be forgiven for their sins due to lack of counseling; but this is the 21st century! The religions themselves have shifted to atone for these misgivings. It is only in the case of radicals that we see the debasement of humans (primarily females) via religion.

Hear me now and believe me later, but I would bet money that it was Queen Rania who led the assault which took out 55 Isis members, and I believe it was Ann Romney who told Mitch, “Oh, Hell no! You’re not runnin”!

    • Kells,

This is where you go too far and start playing with the fires of hell.

A RELIGION may well change with time, but this is because religions are man-made. However, the commands of the One True God do not and cannot change unless He tells us they have. So, if you are a Muslim and you believe Allah is the true god, then you cannot change with time without becoming an apostate. The same applies for Mormons, Jews and Christians. And to the extent that men have changed God’s laws for their own desires/purposes, those people have willingly entered into heresy. This is all by definition, so if you are going to continue to tell me I am wrong, then you will have to re-write not only the Bible and Book of Mormon, but also the English language and rules governing logic and right reason. Only a person who presumes to be god, themselves, would ever attempt such an arrogant act, but — sadly — I will not put it past you to do so now as you have shown a propensity to do so in the past. 😦

        • You see, YOU are the one saying I am attacking someone. More human judgment. If I were to see you driving down a narrow mountain road and I know the other side of a hair-pin, blind turn has been washed out, am I “attacking” you if I warn you that you are heading for danger? If you think 2+2=5 and I try to tell you and explain to you why it is 4, and I “Attacking” you? Scripture says correction is a blessing, but only the wise will profit from it, whereas the fool will not. It is not for me to decide which anyone else is, but only to warn where and when I see danger. I am doing my part for those who will heed.

            • Kells,

You have always assumed where I am concerned — even when I specifically told you that you were wrong, you have ascribed the tone you want me to be using onto my words. If you would just take my word for the tone I say I mean to convey, you may find that the things I write suddenly take on a whole different context and meaning.

              • Your tone rings very true to me. My life revolves around reading people, so please give me a break! In other words; I’m very well aware of when you are being a little patronizing pr***.

    • Kells,

      ???????? Queen Rania ////….55 ISIS members ( are U sure you didn’t mean 57 Members ????

And who are You now ??………. I don’t recognize the Picture.

          • The perversion of any religion for misogynist or proletarian-dictatorship purposes has been prevalent since the beginning of time. Be assured that Nellie is your huckleberry.(The sickest doc in the house can usually weed out the disease, you see?)

            • Except — in the case of Islam — it is no perversion, but the example Muhammad set himself. And remember, Allah said Muhammad is the beautiful example for all Muslim men to follow…

You have been shown the passages from the Qur’an and Hadith affirming this, yet you still refuse to accept the truth. I am beginning to think anyone who tries to help you see the truth is casting their pearls before swine 😦

                • So YOU are saying Yahweh and Yeshua are liars, as well as the Apostles. (note: I did not place a question mark on that sentence because it is a statement of fact).

Kells, I’ve offered you correction. You refuse to accept it. The Scriptural thing for me to do now is leave you to Satan in hopes that you will realize your mistake, repent and return to God’s Word.

                  • Where in the hello do you get that from my comment? It’s amazing that you two boys blather on with your condemnations of Islam yet refrain from answering the most fundamental question posited in my post. How’s bout you both do me a favour and read Matt. 7 …….m’kay?

See here. I do not mean to come across as condescending, but you boys behave as children by not answering directly. Do you understand? Oh, and by the by, just bought Ben Carson’s book for teens. LOVE it(first two chapters, anyhow.) Reckon you would deem that unworthy too……..Crikey. My solo, Woe is Me, takes on new meaning when I chat with you boys….

                    • I get it from YOU! God’s word says something, then Kells comes along and declares that it is NOT what God meant. Many times you directly contradict what Scripture says. That means YOU are calling God a liar.

Use your head, Kells. In Isaiah, God specifically calls us to reason. try it sometimes. It might help you keep from making foolish comments.

                    • So sick of going in circles with you. I don’t defend the Antichrist, nor do I try to know the mind of God. What I do try to do is not condemn, but educate as to what is happening around me.

Today I read of three Muslims who did extraordinary things in their young lives before being gunned down by a hateful Atheist. Your post seems to condemn them rather than share the love of Christ (which is exactly how they were living all of their 20 odd years.)

                • That fact is irrelevant .
As they are acting as good muslims following muhammad’s example and following his order in how to treat non-believer sex slaves. What they are doing is NOT the perversion of islam….it is rather islam at its most basic.

Your rationalization of it is a version of your enabling of it just as the officials actions were and are in Rotherdam. Your lack of condemning it and the muslim community for allowing it is itself a kind of condoning of it.

Your silence is an act of cowardice and defeat to the muzzies and their Devil inspired actions.

                  • DonAmeche,

She cannot see the truth in your words. She sees only the PC and mutlicultural lies of this world. Utah is correct when he lashes out at the effects of postmodernism (and deconstructionism). It has destroyed the ability of most the people living in the West to either think or see the Truth when it is presented to them.

                    • That there is absolutely NO response the to innocent little girls themselves is another telling aspect of the Postmodern Deconstruction of not only Morality but of Compassion itself.

It is “Interesting” , so to speak, from professed Christians and those who spout Liberty ( Libertarians). Is it not.

                    • DonAmeche,

I suppose. All I know is that, the closer I get to the Lord, the more weary I get of man and his cruelty to other men. I am coming to the point where I understand Ecclesiastes far better than I ever have or wanted to. 😦

                • Kells,

Muhammad is defined by John as an antichrist, yet you defend him. This is different from praying for your enemies. You are defending him. Ephesians tells us we are in a spiritual war and you are giving aid and comfort to your enemies. I think you should read 1 John — especially the first two chapters. It explains why you should listen to John, then it tells you who among those calling themselves by Christ’s name is and is not a liar.

I will pray for you, but I will no longer discuss these matters with you as — so far as I can tell by your ACTIONS — you have chosen sides, and you chose poorly.

  2. Given I lost my own omniscience a while ago, I prefer to let the God of the Jews & the Christians, know variously as Jehovah, Yaweh, Adonnai, God the Father & The Big Guy, make the decision as to who is a true follower of Jesus of Nazareth. According to Jesus’ teachings, his followers are called to love the Lord their God with their heart & mind & their neighbors as themselves. My favorite 20th century theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, discussed this issue in his great work, ETHICS, & concluded Christians are called to love others, not to judge them, since as human beings we cannot do both.

So for me, a person who confesses Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior, & whose behavior bears out that commitment, is to me a Christ-follower or Christian, as they were first called at Antioch. Jesus’ own teachings emphasized deeds rather than words as the witness of a man or woman’s heart. That has always worked for me, & the deeds of most Mormons I’ve known have shown them to be followers of Christ. CDE

    • If I see someone go astray and I try to warn them, the Bible says that IS love! However, if I make them comfortable in their spiritual blindness, the Bible says that is NOT love. You see, Jesus told us to agape Yahweh with all our heart and mind, and to agape our neighbor as ourselves. Now I wonder, how many of us even understand the difference between agape love and phelio love — especially when the majority of us only know or understand eros love? If anyone cares, give this a quick read:

DO YOU KNOW SCRIPTURE: The Many Types of Love in Scripture

Now, if I have an agape love for God, would I change what he has said is His nature and then worship Him after I have made Him to fit my desires? Or would I love Him as He says He is, and for what He says He is? Christ said, “If you love me, obey my commands” (John 14:15). Well, this means you have to keep to everything in Christ’s Gospel. Once you do that, salvation through works is out the window. I can go on, but this should be enough — for anyone who loves God or cares about their own salvation. If I have an agape love for God, then I will love Him as He describes Himself, and I will obey His laws and accept His Gospel message as He delivered them.

At the same time, if I have an agape love for my neighbor, then I will treat him as I would treat myself. Now, if I will not stray from God as God describes Himself, nor break His laws nor change His Gospel message, then how can I say I love my neighbor if I see him going astray and do not try to warn him? Or worse, how can I say I love my neighbor if I not only do not warn them but try to make them comfortable in their blindness?

Now, I understand some people believe Paul created a new religion, but he didn’t. In fact, Paul explicitly says he taught exactly what Jesus told him to teach. Paul got his Gospel message directly from Christ. Paul also quotes the Old Testament throughout his letters, and then explains what they meant and how they had been misunderstood by the Jews. In fact, it is Paul who tells us the Jews and Christians are one! So Paul rejects the claim that he is creating a new religion and explains that he is teaching a Gospel direct from Christ.

Now, there may be people who are comfortable accepting what Moses wrote and rejecting Paul, but I am not among them. They may feel they can tell me I have no right to question the salvation of a person who re-creates their own, personal jesus and then turn around and tell me they are justified in picking and choosing what books of the Bible they will accept. But, as I say, I cannot and will not join them for they are traveling a dangerous path. To create your own jesus and your own Gospel and then claim you actually know Christ? Well, I think Jesus may have had those people in mind — and this includes EVERYONE who has said these words — claimed to be a prophet since Christ ascended:

      Matt 7: 15-23

      A Tree and Its Fruit

15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will [k]know them by their fruits. [l]Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will [m]know them by their fruits.

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many [n]miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

You see, those men and women who have claimed to be a prophet and who have tried to change the nature of Yahweh or Yeshua, or Yeshua’s Gospel are ravenous wolves. They are the same people Jesus warned us to watch out for and avoid: people claiming to be prophets and even claiming to be Him. These wolves seek to lead people astray, and so do the people who defend them or make excuses for them. Now, ask yourself this question: if Jesus said to watch for people claiming to be Him, and to avoid them, then what are we to make of those people who also try to change who Jesus said He is? Do you think these people might all be among the wolves Jesus said to watch for and guard against? You might not, but I do, and I am commanded to warn lest your blood be on my hands.

  3. Charles,

Bonhoeffer is indeed Great ! But he is not Jesus. WE can indeed Both Love and judge, for as you note Jesus’ own teachings emphasizing deeds rather than words as a” witness of a person’s heart ” .

To witness honestly is indeed act act of judging. And it is not mutually exclusive with love.

    • DonAmeche,

I suspect you know this, but many do not — and sadly, that includes many Christians.

Jesus did tell us not to judge, but He also told us to judge. Most people miss what Jesus was really telling us. We are not to judge a person’s heart or salvation, but we are to judge their actions. The reason Christ told us not to do so was to protect us. We are to judge with mercy, which most of us cannot do — especially since we do not understand what it really means. So Christ told us not to judge to protect us, you just have to read the next lines to understand that. He goes on to say that as we judge — by the same measure we use — we will be judged. There are other places in the Gospels where Christ tells us we must judge, both implicitly and explicitly. The problem is our society would rather ignore this so it can feel better about disobeying God’s Laws.

Matthew 7: 7-6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

      Judging Others

7 “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and [a]by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how [b]can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

6 “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

As an aside: I find it interesting that so many people think of Jesus in the terms of a 1960’s hippie. In their minds, Christ could never be ‘mean’ to anyone. I can only assume this is because they do not read the Bible. Otherwise, they may have noticed that last verse there, Matthew 7:6. The “swine” are Gentiles (pagans) and those who do not see with Spiritual eyes (idolators). Christ is saying not to bother trying to explain God’s word to people who have rejected God because they will only mock it — and you.

Somehow, Don, I think you will understand the rest without me having to say it 😉
