THE ORLANDO SHOOTING: If You Use It To Push Gun Control, You Should Not Be Allowed To Vote!

The Oil for Your Lamp

Yes, you read that correctly.  What’s more, it is 100% correct:

If you chose to use the Islamic attack in Orlando as an excuse to push more gun control, you should not be allowed to vote!

This is how it works:

We are all born with certain inalienable rights.  Among them is the right to life.  Inherent in a right is the right to defend your rights.  This includes the right to self-defense because, if you do not have a right to defend it, then you do not really have a right to your own life.

Any free and self-governing society is bound to protect and preserve these inalienable right.  This includes the rights of people with who you disagree.  If you have a right to live, so do they.  If you have a right to speak, so do they.  In fact, anything you claim a right o must be…

  1. Before we go all out and take away rights from law abiding citizens, let’s break down the official numbers from the CDC and FBI statistics for 2013:

There are roughly 32,000 deaths/yr. in the US due to guns.
    60% are suicides, that’s ~19,200
    3% are accidentals, that’s 960.
    4% are justified, that’s 1,280
    33% are homicides, that’s 10,560 (still a horrific number)
80% of homicides are gang related, that’s 8,448.

That leaves 2,112 in a society of over 312 million people.

Which equates to 0.010256% of death by a gun across the board. And ~0.00068% of death by a gun if you don’t hang out in the hood with gangs, not planning on committing a suicide, and not planning a crime.

Clearly, mental health is a much greater problem than guns in the hands of normal law-abiding citizens.
