Help Us Oprah-Wan Kenobi

“She lived as we all have lived, too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men.”

Or so The Oprah says.

Progressives are falling over themselves to worship the latest Priestess of Progressive Feminism, offering paeans to Her High and Nigh Ass in orgiastic glee. Cheerleading media outlets called the speech “inspirational” (Harper’s) and a “model for would-be presidents” (USA Today).

But it was neither of those things.

It was pedantic and sad.

It follows a long progressive tradition of condemning their own failures and failings by extrapolating those failures and failings to all of society as if the offending progressive segment of society is the same as all of society.

Exactly which “brutally powerful men” have been ensnared?

By and large, they are hypocritical members of progressive groups – primarily in entertainment and media.

To demand or trade sexual favors for advancement isn’t anything new, it isn’t right but this wasn’t just invented by Harvey Weinstein.

Every excoriation I have heard from the left about Weinstein, Franken, Lauer, and others creeps is equivalent to a “No sh*t, Sherlock” moment. In almost 40 years of dealing with and managing people in companies large and small, I have never conducted or allowed anyone I worked with to conduct themselves the way these progressive predators conducted themselves…but I have also had sex (or the promise of it) offered by women with a clear expectation of reward. History is replete with examples of women (and men) rising to power though sexual liaisons. It has been happening as long as there have been men, women and power.

But this whole crisis seems all too contrived to me. I don’t doubt there was abuse in Hollywood and the media complex but it all has an overwhelming “not my monkeys, not my circus” feel.

Perhaps it is that one of the main pillars of progressive theology is that being a progressive means never having to say you are sorry. According to progressive theology, not only is wealth subject to redistribution, failure, blame and shame are to be redistributed as well. There is nothing that assuages the conscience of a progressive more than engaging in a transference of his sins to you. It’s not just the “brutally powerful men” of Hollywood, it is every POP (Person of Penis) in America. All men are abusers and scum (unless you identify as female, in which case you are cool).

It’s the same rationalization they use to explain why every failure of their cherished collectivism is not about them having a very bad idea, you just don’t understand how great it is. It’s your fault collectivism (socialism, Marxism, communism) doesn’t work.

Contrary to the protestations, The Oprah, Meryl Streep and #metoo Alyssa Milano knew – they all knew. It stretches credulity to think people as deeply involved in these industries as these contemporary Lady Macbeth’s didn’t. To quote Bill Shakespeare, “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” Hollywood isn’t embarrassed that they engaged in it, they are just embarrassed they were exposed as hypocrites and we all know there is nothing a progressive enjoys more than being cast as a victim.

And they are playing it to the hilt.

My advice to Hollywood (and all of progressivism) is biblical, taken from Matthew 7:3 and then from Luke 4:23 –

“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”

And

“Physician, heal thyself.”

“The Oprah 2020!” they scream. “Help us Oprah-Wan Kenobi, you are our only hope!”

To which I vociferously reply, “Male bovine fecal material!”

The Oprah’s speech was not inspirational, it smacked of a massive lack of self-awareness. It was an actual self-indictment, a prime example of why none of these progressive hypocrites are fit to organize a one car parade, much less lead one.
