This morning, I had several thoughts that sort of came together in a nexus. There was Lenin, Mick Mulvaney, Emo Comey, Scooter Libby and Trump.

What could all of those possibly have in common? Well, here goes…welcome to the inner workings of my mind.

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin is credited with saying something to the effect that “When it comes time to hang the capitalists, they will sell us the rope.” I was thinking about that this morning as two other things came to mind – the giant middle finger Mick Mulvaney gave to Liz Warren and her Merry Band of Socialists as he explained that, thanks to them setting up the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) as an unaccountable agency, they shouldn’t be surprised that he was not inclined to be accountable to them. I kept thinking about that story several years ago about the guy in Michigan who bought the house next to his ex-wife and her new boyfriend and erected a giant bronze statue of a hand giving the one-finger salute towards next door.

Boom. Democrat Deep State – thanks for the rope Secretary Mulvaney hung you with. Mulvaney was simply playing by the rules you made (when you never thought a Republican could take control over your pet pit bull of an unaccountable agency).

If you think there isn’t a deep state, the Emo-Comey Magical Mystery Book Tour is all you need to watch to confirm it for you. James Comey is taking sanctimony and self-righteousness to totally new heights of course, but the most interesting thing is how rabid his defenders are being in support of His Comeyness. GOP presidents are despised as a rule but the reaction to Trump goes far beyond the usual GOP hatred into territory reserved for enemies of the state – the Deep State, that is. They could put up with Bush II and Bush I, Ford and Reagan to some extent – and they loved Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton and Obama. They hated Nixon because he played just as dirty as they did but, in the end, even Nixon was rehabilitated.

All the presidents prior to Trump all had something in common – even the GOPers – they all were creatures of the state…they came up through the political ranks and were in the club before ascending to the presidency. The Deep State protects its own, even if they are junior members, like the GOPers are. Comey was on the A team, not the JV, and he’s going to get cover that neither Flynn nor Libby did – but even Libby and Flynn took their banishment with dutiful silence.

The first rule of Deep State Club is that we don’t talk about Deep State Club.

The reason they hate Trump is because he is not of the Deep State – you see, the members of the Deep State think elections are only for show and they should approve of who runs the country. If you don’t believe me, just think about how different the treatment is for Comey and McCabe to that of Michael Flynn, Martha Stewart and Scooter Libby – Flynn, Stewart and Libby were charged (Stewart and Libby doing time) for lying to federal agents and no charges are in the offing for Comey and McCabe, who did far worse.

Trump’s full pardon of Libby, like Mulvaney’s shot across the bow of Fauxcahontas’ canoe, was another middle finger extended toward the Democrats and their Deep State buds. It was a sign of things to come. They sold Trump the rope.

Pretty soon, there could be a gigantic bronze sculpture installed at the White House facing Capitol Hill.
