Revolution has come to America. The average citizen would be excused for not noticing – but it has come. It did not come with force of arms, explosions, civil war or an invasion, at least not in the sense of a D-Day style crash of Allied bodies against the Nazi wall on the beaches of Normandy. It came quietly, clandestinely, camouflaged and under the cover of night – it came in on little cat’s feet and late after sundown. It was as unseeable as a ghost and as quiet as a lover’s whisper.
The truth is this progressive “revolution” is a coward’s revolution.
It seems there is not one single institution – from the sports/entertainment industry to our local governments that either is not pushing some aspect of the progressive agenda or is already governed by it. This could be a professional athlete protesting the national anthem, a musician performing a tribute to George Floyd during an awards show or simply mandates from your city for curbside recycling or the banning of plastic grocery bags to alleviate climate change.
Academia is filled with examples of this coward’s revolution – speech codes, free speech zones, the suspension of due process by kangaroo courts in student matters, safe zones – all go beyond the simple indoctrination that has been part and parcel of academic instruction since the radical days of the 60’s. This has become expected at the university level but now children as young as first grade are being subjected to instruction in the progressive’s subversive views of sex, marriage and human development.
This idiocy has reached such a fever pitch that children – and I mean children as young as 4 or 5 – are having their immature minds confused by “sexually fluid” propaganda resulting in their equally immature and confused parents targeting them for “gender reassignment” surgery.
Can you imagine the dementia that must exist in the brains of parents who would seek to have a 5-year-old child physically altered in such a permanent way when the child doesn’t possess the requisite mental faculties to make a definitive decision what to have for dinner? Sheer madness.
And yet this is the absurd world that has been created, on in which it seems we are relegated to little more than impotent rage. This is a world where a postmodern progressive culture has completely subsumed the Constitution and a commonly understood rule of law. It is a world where social justice warriors shame and dictate “the law” to the rest of us, to “cancel” us – as our government idly stands by on the sidelines.
Given the magnitude of malfeasance, if this were 1776 and not 2020, we would be shooting by now.
People may ask reasonable questions: How did we get here without noticing? How did so much power get into progressive hands? How did progressive culture become so powerful that it not only erased the power of the individual, but it also overcame the power of our constitutional government?
Perhaps the answers lie in our transformation from a handshake culture of honesty and honor into the culture of the ancient Pharisees of the Bible.
The Pharisees were an “ancient Jewish sect, distinguished by strict observance of the traditional and written law, and commonly held to have pretensions to superior sanctity.” In other words, a legalistic society where “good” and “right” was determined by how well the laws were followed (an oversimplification to be sure – but for these purposes, it will have to suffice).
In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 23, verses 1-6, Jesus described the Pharisees this way:
1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, 2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. 4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. 6 They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues.”
Over time, we lost trust in ourselves and in our fellow citizens to do the right thing – and as many sought ways around natural laws (and God’s as well) with which they disagreed or saw as an impediment to what they defined as “progress”, power to decide those matters were left to the Pharisees. America gradually became a self-righteous, sanctimonious, hypocritical Pharisaic culture as citizens turned to law and government to be the arbiter of what is right and wrong, what is good and evil. The common idea of such a culture is that if it is legal (or not specifically illegal) it is “right”.
But what happens when even laws established by a government are deemed insufficient?
That is when the contemporary Pharisees begin making their own laws – or begin to interpret the old laws in new ways that give them an advantage.
When one gives the power to another entity decide one’s fate, one cedes one’s own power to decide.
When a man’s word is no longer his bond and it takes more than a handshake to seal a deal, we all lose individual liberty. John Adams wrote that “…we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.”
Adams understood that when the Pharisees and their “human passions unbridled by morality and religion” are called upon to decide anything, they will eventually be called upon to decide everything.
