If you ever wondered what state-controlled healthcare in America would look like, take a gander at California and New York.
Just look at how, in less than a year, the state has become judge and jury when it comes to your personal behavior. Californians and Empire Staters have had their freedom stripped from them under the guise of “public health” rules that regulate when they can be out in public, what they can do in their own homes, how many of their own family members with whom they can have contact and for how long.
I would remind people of Ronald Reagan’s famous (and prescient) almost 60-year-old “Socialized Medicine” speech (1961). Here are a few relevant excerpts – I would recommend you read the entire transcript or listen to the 11-minute recording:
“Now, back in 1927 an American socialist, Norman Thomas, six times candidate for President on the Socialist Party ticket, said the American people would never vote for socialism. But, he said under the name of liberalism the American people will adopt every fragment of the socialist program…
But at the moment I’d like to talk about another way, because this threat is with us, and, at the moment, is more imminent. One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. Most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can’t afford it…
I know how I’d feel, if you, my fellow citizens, decided that to be an actor, I had to become a government employee and work in a national theater. Take it into your own occupation or that of your husband. All of us can see what happens: Once you establish the precedent that the government can determine a man’s working place and his working methods, determine his employment, from here it’s a short step to all the rest of socialism — to determining his pay, and pretty soon your son won’t decide when he’s in school, where he will go, or what they will do for a living. He will wait for the government to tell him where he will go to work and what he will do.”
The future president also noted a truth expressed by James Madison in a speech to the Virginia Convention: “Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment[s] of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.”
There is a real danger that, during a Biden administration featuring the Federal Coronavirus Death Panel (with the morbid, night-of-the-living-dead looking ghoul Zeke Emmanuel), Socialist (i.e. communist) Bernie Sanders as Labor Secretary, Lieawatha Warren at Treasury and Mittens “MassCare” Romney heading HHS, the “the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment[s]” seen in California and New York will become a national nightmare.
If you haven’t become familiar with the term “vaccine nationalism”, you should know this is the basis for the Death Panel’s proposition that the “world” should get the Covid-19 vaccine before all American citizens have access to it. Interesting that many of the “scientists” aligned with Democrats say that America must remain under pandemic “rules” until America achieves 100% vaccination.
How convenient…
It should not be a surprise that Madison was right, he was just expressing a truism that has been validated by the history of mankind. That history teaches that more evil has been done in the name of good and that it isn’t the evil people who do evil things we should worry about – because we know they are evil – it is the good people who do evil in the name of good that are the real risk to mankind.
H.L. Mencken famously said that “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”
The problem with democracy is that the bad ideas of the majority are suffered by the minority as well. People who voted for Biden also voted for the policies of California and New York.
They are about to get what they deserve good and hard – unfortunately for those of us who do not deserve it, we are going to get it as well.
