Regrets, I Have a Few

President Trump never has had the power to go after his individual accusers – Pelosi, Schiff, Swalwell, Lieu, Schumer, any of them – all he could do is to verbally assault them, and he did.

But those same people have the power to target him as an individual from the safety of Congressional rules.

Biden’s presidency is already seen as illegitimate by 70 million people, impeachment will only drive that belief even deeper. It also shows just how little control he has over his own party and solidifies the reality that Pelosi and Schumer are in charge of his presidency, however long he lasts.

What the Democrats are doing is a travesty that will drive the wedge deeper – but the Republicans are not much better. McConnell, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger – all are taking advantage of cover the riot gave them to abandon the President with less than 2 weeks to go. That says more about them than it does Trump. As bad as many think Trump is, the Democrats and their allies in the GOP are even worse.

The Congressional Republicans, with a few important exceptions, sat on their asses and watched the Tech Oligarchs gain power. Trump tried to get them to deal with them, but nothing happened.

The Deep State and the GOPe are still strong and are only interested in reclaiming lost ground.

I’m angry at Trump, but at the same time, I am greatly appreciative of what he accomplished. One can only imagine what America could have accomplished if the President and his team did not have to fight for every fraction of every inch of progress, every minute of every day.

I am seething with anger that the GOP wasted the opportunity of having a president who is willing to put himself on the line for America in a way none of them have been willing to do. Trump proved his behavior greatly depended upon how difficult his situations were and how much – or how little – support he received. That is why I resent the way the President has treated Mike Pence. There has never been a more loyal Vice-President than Pence – Pence knew going in, his tenure was going to be the political version of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.

When history is written, this presidency will be remembered as virtually a solo effort, requiring brute force and maximum effort.

Trump may not have been what most wanted, but I think history will record he was the president we needed and when he needed them most, the GOP let him down for little more than spite.

A pox on all their houses.

  1. I keep looking back and saying, ” I didn’t love every thing done by Trump, but it had to be 100% better than what we would have had to deal with if he had lost the 2016 election.”
