Apocalypse Porn

Democrats and progressives have about the same track record on potentially existential issues as Saint Anthony of Fauci has on anything related to Covid-19.

But that’s how it is when your goal is to be seen as being correct about an issue but you don’t really care about the facts.

The Democrats, progressives and Saint Anthony are sensationalists who are addicted to apocalypticism. President Joe Potemkin Dementia’s policies are based on it.

Remember the 1996 movie “Twister” – a story about two groups of obsessed, undaunted and irascible storm chasers, wrapped around a romance between Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton? How those storm groupies were searching for that mythically evil F-5 tornado that sucked Helen Hunt’s dad out of the storm shelter and began her character’s abandonment and relationship issues?

The people of whom I speak are a version of that cast of characters – apocalypse chasers, if you will.

Apocalypticism, aside from being a mouthful to say, is a real thing.

It has religious significance as it is a belief in “any doctrine concerning the end of the temporal world, especially one based on the Revelations of St. John the Divine” including the Second Coming of Christ – but there is a secular (or statolatrist) version as well. That one is defined as “Belief in apocalyptic prophecies, especially regarding the imminent destruction of the world and the foundation of a new world order as a result of the triumph of good over evil.”

Spoiler Alert: In the secular version, they assume they are the good ones, you are evil. The new world order is one of the UN and the World Economic Forum.

The fact is this: Democrats and progressives and have been the prophets of one doom or another, apocolypse porn addicts, for over a half a century.

  • In the 60’s, overpopulation was going to starve us all to death.
  • In the 70’s, the world was facing a new ice age due to global cooling – if the hole in the ozone layer didn’t give us all cancer first. On January 5, 1978, the New York Times ran an article with the headline: “International Team of Specialists Finds No End in Sight to a 30-Year Cooling Trend in the Northern Hemisphere”.
  • In the 80’s, it was acid rain (by the 90’s, it was “Oops, maybe acid rain isn’t a thing after all”.
  • In the 90’s, it was global warming, worldwide drought, and rising seas – the UN predicted entire nations would be “obliterated” by 2000 if the melting of the polar ice caps was not halted. Al Gore predicted death for all the Polar bears. There was to be no more snow.
  • In the 00’s, having finally realized they have been wrong about everything, the apocalypse junkies began a shift, coalescing around a unified theory of apocalyptic events and adopted “climate change” as an explanation for everything. Fewer hurricanes – climate change. More hurricanes – climate change. Islamofascist terrorism – you guessed it, climate change.
  • Getting no traction from “climate change”, the intrepid apocalypse chasers shifted gears to target social and economic systems. Now, unless we adopt world communism via the World Economic Forum’s “Great Reset”, capitalism, consumerism and racism is going to kill us all and we will need to get Elon Musk to move mankind to Mars.

If you are paying attention, they are even using a global pandemic as an excuse to praise the response of communist China (even thought the ChiComs are lying about 1) the origin of the virus, 2) the performance of their medical system and 3) their infection and fatality rates) and also as an excuse to implement global control of pandemic responses in the future, placing power in the hands of “experts” like St. Anthony and the completely corrupt head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (who isn’t even a real medical doctor).

Apocalypse porn addicts have a pattern of latching onto situations that are unfalsifiable in the short term, yet completely falsifiable in the long term. They keep the pot stirred through agitprop, counting on you to be more terrified by this season’s most fashionable catastrophe than the one from last season.

Look, everything follows Herb Stein’s rule: “If something cannot go on forever, it will stop”. I have no idea when or if the world will end or what will end it – what I do know is that we should never be led by a bunch of hysterics marching down the Main Streets of America wearing their “The End Is Nigh” sandwich boards.
