What a Wicked Game to Play

The names may change, but the leftist media game remains the same.

To a large degree, news reporting, especially cable news, began its decline in quality when the element of entertainment began to play a increased factor in what and how the networks decided to present the “news”.

It is the same as how websites try to attract clicks through sensationalism and often just absurd takes on events and people. At some point, the news powers that be decided objectivity was boring and the news needed to be “juiced up” to attract ears and eyeballs.

This has led to the news getting the “product” treatment, along with constant attention how this information is packaged. When the becomes the modus operandi, the “news” becomes a packaged product tailored to a specific audience, not an objective presentation of facts.

And when you tailor your presentation to a specific audience, you automatically build in the biases and perspectives with which the targeted audience is going agree, enjoy, and support. You select your on-screen talent for that reason because you want your audience to like them, because if the audience does not identify with the presenters, they will not watch or listen – and eyeballs and earholes are the name of the ratings game.

And ratings equal ad revenue.

We all know the players and how they align.

Just like the Lifetime and Hallmark channels target specific audiences (my opinion is that Lifetime targets female readers of “bodice ripping” romance novels and Hallmark targets people addicted to romantic Christmas programs), the Alphabet broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS) target people who never seek alternative news sources, MSNBC targets radical, race obsessed, left wing conspiracy theorists, CNN targets captive airport dwellers and is just anti-Trump 24/7 (sort of like MSNBC, only bad at it) and Fox News is the right wing alternative to the other two.

But, as Keith Jackson used to say, “Whoa, Nelly!”

Just as CNN did with the Nick Sandman/Covington Catholic story, the networks have gone full fiction on the Kyle Rittenhouse story. If Rittenhouse is acquitted, as many expect will happen and the evidence is overwhelming in his favor, he is likely to top Sandman in earnings from the many slander and libel suits to come.

CBS tweeted:

“Kyle Rittenhouse testified in his murder trial yesterday, breaking down in tears as he told the jury he murdered two men at a Black Lives Matter protest last year in self-defense.”

The emphasis is mine, because they later changed “murdered” to “killed” after twitter followers pointed out they might want to rethink that tweet.

The media, from MSNBC to CNN to the usual suspects in the print media, are positioning Gaige Grosskreutz, shot in the arm by Kyle Rittenhouse, as a “sole survivor” of an “active shooter” (never mind they never disclose Grosskreutz is suing the City of Kenosha for $10 million).

CBS followed up that tweet with a totally unbiased post titled: “Lone survivor shot by Kyle Rittenhouse at Kenosha protests says he thought he “was going to die

Dear God in Heaven, how do the people at these networks sleep at night?

No matter how much the prosecutor Lord Petyr Baelish, commonly known to Game of Thrones fans as Littlefinger and otherwise known in this realm as ADA Thomas Binger, tries to remanufacture the events in a way to fit his narrative, we have video that proves the aggressors were Joseph Rosenbaum, Anthony Huber, Gaige Grosskreutz and the luckiest of this group, the unidentified dude who kicked Rittenhouse in the face but was missed by two rounds from Rittenhouse’s AR.

Rittenhouse didn’t provoke these people, nor did he pursue them – they all were part of a larger mob that was burning downtown Kenosha to the ground and turned their anger on Rittenhouse.

Those are the facts, and obvious ones at that, but the leftist media wants you to ignore those facts because they don’t fit the narrative they created within 5 minutes of the shootings back in August of 2020.

How deep does this illusion go?

I’ll let Ana Kasparian, far-left co-host of progressive news program “The Young Turks,” give her perspective. She went on air to say this:

“Initially I was under the assumption that Rittenhouse was the person who was chasing after Joseph Rosenbaum — that’s how it had started, but I was wrong about that… So, those details matter, right?” Who was chasing who matters, the gunshots by some other unidentified person, that matters — especially if you’re Rittenhouse, and you’re running away, and then you hear shots, and then Rosenbaum lunges toward him.”

I also saw an admission from someone who happened to watch the trial and for the first time since the incident, realized the people Rittenhouse shot were all white people.

That’s how deep the illusion goes. Propaganda and agitprop deep.

I know that Fox gets hammered by the left for being right leaning, but with both the Covington and the Kenosha situations, their reporting has been in line with the facts.

After the Benghazi back in 2012, Democratic pollster Pat Cadell had this to say about the media coverage of that tragedy:

“First of all, we’ve had 9 days of lies…If a president of either party…had had a terrorist incident and gotten on an airplane [after remarks] and flown off to a fundraiser in Las Vegas, they would have been crucified…it should have been, should have been, the equivalent, for Barack Obama, of George Bush’s “flying over Katrina” moment. But nothing was said at all. Nothing will be said. […] It is [unacceptable] to specifically decide that you will not tell the American people information they have a right to know[The MSM] has made themselves the enemy of the American people. It is a threat to the very future of the country; we’ve crossed a new and frightening line on the slippery slope, and it needs to be talked about.

The wicked game remains the same.
