Anarchy is more than a bunch of rock throwing, sign toting, balaclava wearing, fascist thugs dressed in black goth outfits. Anarchy is first manifested in the mind, typified by opposition defiant behaviors fueled by the rejection of every social more, tradition and morality of established cultures and civilizations.
Never forget that this anarchy hides itself within the so-called “scholarship” flowing from academia.
When the institutions of learning shifted from teaching how to think to teaching what to think, they fell victim to the intellectual anarchy of undisciplined thought more governed by desire and emotion than logic and reason.
Critical Race Theory is the flavor of the day, but it is a perfect example of how this anarchy works.
The creators of Critical Race Theory, Derrick Bell and Kimberlé Crenshaw, were/are intelligent people (Bell died in 2011). CRT began when they started looking for reasons, considering a century of legislation and Supreme Court decisions, why blacks in America have not progressed as quickly as the protections and favoritism of the legislation and decisions would imply.
Both Bell and Crenshaw had to dismiss and ignore causations like the preponderance of fatherless families in the black communities, children growing up in criminal and gang territories, lack of personal responsibility, dependence upon the welfare state, living in high unemployment areas, a generational perception of persecution and inferiority and most of all, the success of certain black Americans and the success of other minorities (Asian, Indian, black African immigrants), to settle on the conclusion that the ONLY reason for the lack of expected success of blacks is white racism.
Perhaps the most powerful refutation is the success of certain black Americans and the success of other minorities especially that of recent (withing the past 50 years) of black African immigrants to the US. America has black CEO’s, black millionaires, black media stars, black star professional athletes, and it has had a biracial president (who identified as black), black Secretary of State and other black cabinet members and black Supreme Court justices. Interracial marriages and relationships are an accepted norm and yet, CRT still claims America is filled with white supremacy and racism.
There is a reason this is called a “theory”. Theories are ideas that lack absolute proof, and yet this is a “theory” that has not only been accepted as fact but is being taught as fact to children all over this nation.
The truth is, more than ever, there are people in society who are no longer interested in civil society, they simply want to do things that they want to do, regardless of the reason for the strictures or the consequences. The chaos that anarchy of the mind creates allows them to focus only on their desires and then manufacture reasons for doing it, no matter if the facts and truth speak loudly against it.
But they don’t care about facts or truth, for those are enemies of their wantonness.
These mental anarchists simply seek to destroy. They operate from the premise that because something is forbidden or restricted, there is no good reason for it to be, and that means it is evil and must be destroyed.
These are people so blinded by a desire to destroy, they forget that walls and boundaries have two purposes: sometimes they are constructed to keep people in, but sometimes they are built to keep bad things out, to protect those behind them.
G.K. Chesterton wrote:
“In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.”
These reavers and berserkers never stop to ask what the purpose of the wall is, they are so blinded by anger it exists, the drive to raze it at all costs become too strong to resist.
It seems a truism that people generally have a resident anarchical penchant because they generally favor of the prohibition or destruction of things, they, themselves, don’t like.
Whether directed at a particular policy or an entire civilization, the case for destruction is always the same: those campaigning, advocating, and destroying always claim there is absolutely nothing positive or good in that thing they deign to destroy, and that anyone who claims or believes otherwise is somehow morally or mentally corrupted; therefore, wrong, and likely evil (however they define evil, which tends to evolve according to their sociopolitical objectives).
Even the most intelligent people can succumb to the anarchy of the mind, which is evident in their lack of recognition that behind their opposition, there might be validity to be considered. At no point do they ever find within themselves the intellectual integrity, curiosity, or even humility, to take a breath long enough to ask:
If people disagree so adamantly, why do they disagree, and is there any validity to their arguments?
As William F. Buckley said:
“Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”
Mental anarchy has significant value to the destroyers – but it can give way to disciplined thought. I was struck by something Bill Maher said about the current abortion argument:
“I learned things this week because this put it on the front page that are pretty basic things that I did not know about abortion. Like in Europe, the modern countries of Europe – way more restrictive than we are or what they’re even proposing. If you are pro-choice, you would like it a lot less in Germany and Italy and France and Spain and Switzerland. Did you know that? I didn’t know that…I learned most people who are pro-life are women. Did not know that.”
The more you know, I guess…
