As Felicia Sonmez found out, there are limits to woke beliefs and behaviors after all.

Some beliefs take hold organically and under their own power because they offer some positive benefit to the believers, either materially, mentally, or spiritually. These are beliefs strong enough to stand on their own and resist challenges and attacks from believers and non-believer alike.

Judaism, Christianity, Islam – all the great religions are examples of self-sustaining belief systems.

Then there are beliefs I call “sponsee” beliefs.

“Sponsee” is a relatively new word, having come into usage around 2004 to describe a person in some form of addiction treatment who is sponsored by another person.

“Sponsee” is a dependent term. Where there are sponsees, there must be sponsors.

Sponsee beliefs are the fact and evidence free beliefs that America is inherently racist, white people are always racist, anti-racism isn’t just racism, J6 was an insurrection, alternative energy sources are ready to shed the adjective “alternative”, and government borrowing, and spending has nothing to do with inflation.

These are all examples of beliefs that collapse without the active support of some sponsor.

But perhaps the greatest reveal is when a sponsor no longer supports the sponsee.

The recent Felicia Sonmez Lifetime Channel spectacular at the Washington post is so replete with lessons about bad behavior that was sponsored by the Post’s management and employees for a long time – but Sonmez plumbed the depths of “woke” behavior and found out that tolerance of it is not unlimited, especially when you turn your guns on your sponsor and its agents.

Sonmez lit up her fellow employees and the Post management the same way she flamed her enemies, believing she was shielded by her sponsor – and she had good reasons for that belief. For years, the Post has been behaving just as badly as Sonmez, only their aim was directed outward, toward conservatives and President Trump.

In a more contemporary example, the Post had just excused and whitewashed yet another false and illegitimate attack mounted by Post reporter Taylor Lorenz on a couple of people whom Lorenz lied about contacting for her story after she just doxed the woman behind the sensational Libs of TikTok.

The clear message the Post sent by hiring Lorenz away from the New York Times, where her forte was using the internet and social media to destroy the lives of people as young as sixteen, was “We like it, we love it, we want some more of it” – so Sonmez was legitimate in her belief that she had a patron that was going to protect her.

Unfortunately for Sonmez, the Post’s standards are as flexible as their principles. Firing her cements that they aren’t really down with the woke attacks, especially when the death ray is aimed at them. In a way, this was yet another example of Alinsky’s “Make your enemy live up to his own rules” turned inward.

When Sonmez focused her lasers on her allies, she lost her sponsor.

So, there are limits to the woke beliefs and behaviors after all.

There is a lesson for us to learn here.

And that lesson is the Kryptonite of the woke are the woke themselves. Organizations like the Post have bred, reared, educated, and sponsored a generation of their own worst enemies. Woke has attained cultural status, built upon movements like #MeToo, Black Lives Matter, Critical Race Theory, LGBQ and Transgenderism.

Ultimately, wokeism is little more than self-destructive behavior taken to a cultural level and like the self-destructive behaviors in people, it can’t be stopped from the outside. The fastest way to stop it is to stop destroying yourself.

When these “sponsor” entities recognize the damage they are doing to themselves, they will also recognize the only way to stop it is to stop their sponsorship of the very thing that is killing them.

Sure, Sonmez will probably find another sponsor – but it won’t be a platform as large as the Post – and if she displays the same behaviors at her new sponsor, she will get bounced again. When this happens enough, entire entities will begin to get the boot from the public consciousness.
