Physics is Sexist and Other Tales of Progressive Lunacy

There are many things that I do not care about. I’m generally pretty clueless about shades of any given color, preferring to stick to the primary colors. I’m a fan of simple, basic rules – I never wear a patterned shirt and with a patterned tie, I never wear a tux with tails to a black tie event (they are only appropriate for a “white tie” event) and I always coordinate my accessories – belt, watch band, shoes are always in the same color family. Simple rules for a simple, uncomplicated life.

I’m the same with reason and logic. I always try to reduce the complexity of problems as a way to solve them.

Philosophically, that works for me but it doesn’t work for the nattering, rabid mob on the left.

There is a belief that somehow facts – even natural laws – are somehow discriminatory. They reject pure reason as somehow an attempt by people who base their lives and decisions on reality to somehow demean and diminish them.

Well, sometimes people are just wrong. Coming up with disjointed “rationales” to explain your own inability to deal with reality is just plain stupid. Inventing incomprehensible theories to explain why your race or gender is the reason people ridicule your ideas or behaviors is even worse.

I was reading through some items this past week to get my philosophy on and I ran across the most patently absurd thing I have seen in a while. It was a snippet from Richard Dawkins’ review of Intellectual Impostures by Alan Sokal and Jean Bricmont, a 1998 book about the mind-numbing irrationality of postmodern “thought” and the “scholarship” this is based on and it includes this gem:

“The feminist ‘philosopher’ Luce Irigaray is another who gets whole-chapter treatment from Sokal and Bricmont. In a passage reminiscent of a notorious feminist description of Newton’s Principia (a “rape manual”), Irigaray argues that E=mc2 is a “sexed equation”. Why? Because “it privileges the speed of light over other speeds that are vitally necessary to us” (my emphasis of what I am rapidly coming to learn is an ‘in’ word). Just as typical of this school of thought is Irigaray’s thesis on fluid mechanics. Fluids, you see, have been unfairly neglected. “Masculine physics” privileges rigid, solid things. Her American expositor Katherine Hayles made the mistake of re-expressing Irigaray’s thoughts in (comparatively) clear language. For once, we get a reasonably unobstructed look at the emperor and, yes, he has no clothes:

‘The privileging of solid over fluid mechanics, and indeed the inability of science to deal with turbulent flow at all, she attributes to the association of fluidity with femininity. Whereas men have sex organs that protrude and become rigid, women have openings that leak menstrual blood and vaginal fluids… From this perspective it is no wonder that science has not been able to arrive at a successful model for turbulence. The problem of turbulent flow cannot be solved because the conceptions of fluids (and of women) have been formulated so as necessarily to leave unarticulated remainders.’”

So physics, the natural science that involves the study of matter and its motion through space and time, along with related concepts such as energy and force – basically the science we use to explain the universe – is sexist.

Luce Irigaray is no garden variety loon, she is currently the Director of Research in Philosophy at the prestigious Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique de Paris.

There are those who, rather than face simple, incontrovertible facts, seek to explain away answers that do not fit their own paradigm with irrational silliness.

Irrationality is at the root of the Blacklivesmatter “movement” and the current petit fascist student protests. Rather than dealing with facts and reality, the leaders of these groups sell fiction to groups of sheeple willing to bleat to any myth as long as it gives them meaning – and that is all this is about. There are people incapable of functioning in a real world scenario and fear being placed in a circumstance where they might be found wanting and their inadequacies revealed. Therefore, they create a fantasy world where they are the righteous victims owed deference buy the rational world.

Contemporary feminism is fraught with this kind of “logic” but evidence of it is now everywhere – from people “identifying” as one gender or the other, or no gender at all, to willful denial of other worldly realities.

But unfortunately for the weak of mind, facts are facts, a few of which are that ISIS is Islamic, Muslims are carrying out terrorist attacks in the name of Islam, the economy is not in recovery, Barack Obama is a failed president, Hillary Clinton is a liar and Caitlyn Jenner is a dude in a dress.

  1. In classical Quantum mechanics, Basic particle wave duality, the uncertainty principle, the slit experiment all point to the eternal feminine dontcha think ? The quantum nature of reality just can’t make up her mind…..or changes it …just cause…. ;- )).

Maybe a little bit of *rule 5* could put all these female perspectives in clearer view…… just leave out Bruce Gender.

  2. Speaking of Caitlyn Jenner. Was in Atlanta a couple of months ago, and we decided to eat at the upscale Fandangles. The waiter suggested a drink that you could only get away with either in Atlanta or perhaps San Francisco. The name of the drink was “Caytlin Ginner”, and the waiter told us it had a fake cherry.

I about laughed my ass off.

  3. Simple me stuck to the simple logic of ones and zeros and a CS degree. Physics is baffling enough but at least physicists declare a theory a theory until they can prove it. The “logic” of the left seems generally to be declared fact – think global warming – the raw data be damned and dissenters labeled by the vilest names they can think of. Too bad we can’t channel the attack dogs of the left against ISIS. Perhaps that would solve two problems at the same time?
