I Too Have Become Disillusioned

Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, the result of a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world’s largest economy, direct the world’s most powerful military, execute the world’s most consequential job?
Imagine a future historian examining Obama’s pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League, despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a “community organizer;” a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, less often did he vote “present”); and finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions.
He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as a legislator. And then there is the matter of his troubling associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama’s “spiritual mentor;” a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama’s colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president?
Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberal Dom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were ‘a bit’ extreme, he was given a pass. Let that sink in: Obama was given a pass – held to a lower standard – because of the color of his skin.
Podhoretz continues: And in any case, what did such ancient history matter when he was also so articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said) “non-threatening,” all of which gave him a fighting chance to become the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest?
Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon – affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.
Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don’t care if these minority students fail; liberals aren’t around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self-esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action. Yes, racist. Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin – that’s affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn’t racism, then nothing is.
And that is what America did to Obama. True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be? As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate. All his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary.
What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display every time Obama speaks? In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama’s oratory skills, intellect, and cool character. Those people conservatives included – ought now to be deeply embarrassed.
The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of clichés, and that’s when he has his Teleprompters in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can barely think or speak at all. Not one original idea has ever issued from his mouth –
it’s all warmed-over Marxism of the kind that has failed over and over again for 100 years. (An example is his 2012 campaign speeches which are almost word for word his 2008 speeches)
And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited this mess. Remember, he wanted the job, campaigned for the task. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his own powerlessness, so comfortable with his own incompetence. (The other day he actually came out and said no one could have done anything to get our economy and country back on track). But really, what were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do we expect him to act responsibly?
In short: our president is a small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job. When you understand that, and only when you understand that, will the current erosion of liberty and prosperity make sense. It could not have gone otherwise with such an impostor in the Oval Office.

We should be alarmed by this cover — but for different reasons than many will think. Study history and you will find that — most the time — assassinations happen when the Left thinks its leaders have betrayed the cause. Don’t believe me? Look it up.
Now, think about what would happen to this nation if ANYTHING happens to this President. This is why I actually pray for his safety — and I do so regularly. I’d urge you to do the same.

I’m really not that worried about Biden being president, because I doubt very much that Obama makes a whole lot of decisions in the White House. He has “folks” for that. Those folks aren’t going away if he’s assassinated — unless someone blows up the West Wing anyways. And, NO, I am NOT suggesting that.
The fact is that getting Obama out of office wouldn’t fix anything. The problems are so deeply rooted in Congressional inaction and ineptitude and the infestation of the Executive branch by the administrative state that changing presidents won’t fix it. This problem has been growing since Woodrow Wilson (and maybe before). We can’t lay it all at the feet of one immature, incompetent bi-racial man.
This is a good sign. We’re starting to actually have a conversation about “How exactly did this bozo get into office?” There’s hope, maybe for the first time, that in 2016, people will have actually figured it out and will elect somebody with integrity ….

The NEWSWEEK article in this post highlights what can happen when politically correct wishful thinking is allowed to confect a false image for a Presidential candidate. The Liberal/Progressive media, including NEWSWEEK, wanted Barack Obama to be a brilliant, post-racial conciliator, knowledgeable in economics and international affairs, in effect the African American embodiment of the American Dream of a leader. What they concealed from the American public were Obama’s apparently Affirmative Action-based admissions to Occidental College (Occidental College?), Columbia University and Harvard Law, his accomplishment-free records at University of Chicago Law School, the Illinois State Senate and the US Senate, his involvement in numerous shady Chicago-style real estate deals, his relationships with unsavory characters like the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Frank Marshall Davis and terrorist William Ayres and a host of other warning signs that the dream candidate would turn-out to be a nightmare. Obama has been viciously protected from his critics by ad hominem attacks featuring regular cries of “Racism,” which has become the sin against the Holy Ghost in Obama’s hyper-partisan America. Is it nice that some of the American Media is finally coming out of its pre-adolescent infatuation with America’s Narcissist-In-Chief? Of course. Is the awakening long overdue? By about six-years, but they’ll do it all again if they have the chance, whatever the cost to our nation. Greg: “Lies, damned lies and statistics” is an interesting way of saying that while some things may be true, they actually tend to distort a more serious truth. While you are certainly not lying, your use of numbers obscures rather than elucidating my point in this area. Of course virtually all African Americans are solid, law-abiding citizens. We know that statistically, anecdotally and from personal experience. Most crime committed by Blacks is committed against other Blacks, since most criminals prey on others who live in areas they know well and most Americans still prefer to live among people that look like they do. The criminals in the Black community constitute a tiny percentage of African American citizens, but they commit a staggering percentage of crime in America today, over 65%, despite being a tiny percentage of the 14% of Americans that are ethnically identified as Black. By the way, the same pattern exists for White criminals…tiny percentage, but very active criminality.
Two problems exist and persist on this issue today. First, the percentage of crimes committed by African Americans, primarily young adult males, is not dropping, despite the overall lowering of crimes brought about largely by more effective police tactics like “stop, question and frisk” in NYC. Second, a culture that glorifies crime and criminals, driven by the entertainment industry, has grown up within the broad American society, and it is reinforcing and transmitting values that hurt the prospects of young Black men to enter than mainstream of the American economy. Rather than confronting this second development, Our Dear Leader supports it by hanging out with rappers, and treating them as cool, rather than stigmatizing them for the leaches that they are. So yes, virtually all African Americans are far more likely to be victims than criminals, but criminals in America today are more likely to be Black than White, despite the relatively small percentage of the US population that are African American. I can’t believe it’s been almost 3 years since this article. So much for “hope & change”. And so much for hope in an adequate and appropriate Presidential candidate. I seriously think our only real hope in fixing this corrupt government is by complete insurrection by the masses. Boot every single politician, cut ALL financial streams to them and then start fresh.
That is what needs to happen, but I increasingly doubt that it will happen at the ballot box. Too many state governments made it too easy to register to vote with your food stamps application, so the electorate actually appears to think Bernie or the Donald are the answer to what ails the country. Super Tuesday might change my mind, but I doubt it.

I take it the confusion to the actual author of the piece came from the fact that they both worked for Newsweek. The title of this piece actually seems to infer that he is agreeing with one of his co-workers. They’re both great pieces, so I’m happy.

Yes I agree. 1st lets start with Bush. Putting someone like Al Gore and then Kerry against him assured a Republican victory regardless of false claims of voter fraud etc. 0-bama 2004 election not properly vetted nor honestly reported by the media ran a campaign of delusions and lies. 2008 Very few Republicans wanted Romney he was forced upon us. To assure Romneys loss massive widespread voter fraud, blocking military votes and selective reporting by a sympathetic media.

I may be wrong, but wasn’t it just recently reported that the long time Editor of Newsweek Magazine was just promoted as the 15th or 19th journalist hired for the personal use to the Obama Administration. Not sure how that’s considered a promotion but I did read this somewhere. Maybe not Newsweek but one of the equivelents.

You know, it’s really quite disturbing to read an article like this, not for the comments about Barack Hussein Obama, for they are long overdue, but because it’s almost as though the writer feigns earlier ignorance of these matters. Millions were trying to get the attention of the leftist media, to explain the real problems with putting such a man in the seat of arguably the highest political office on the planet. What was the response? Insults, cries of racism, indifference, and an apathetic eff you attitude that still exudes from the pores of many Obama supporters, regardless of what the past 5 years have revealed to us about his character, his abilities (or screaming lack thereof), his indifference to the concerns of the American people, the disrespect for the constitution, almost treating it like a piece of toilet paper, and his gross ineptness on the world stage. He has been little more than a joke to the rest of the world, and an embarrassment to the American people. He will certainly be looked upon by those with any sense of discernment, as the worst American president to date. The next 3 years cannot move quickly enough, and I suggest that everyone keeps a close eye on him, as I don’t think he is finished in his attempts at destroying America. Mark my words. My son sent this to me. As I read the article and all the remarks, I began to cry. You see I am much older than all of you and I can remember that baseball was grand, we took our hats off when “The Song” was played. I can remember my mom waiting in a long line to use her coupon for sugar because my birthday was coming up and she wanted to bake me a cake. I can remember that words to songs really meant no harm to anyone, didn’t downgrade, or belittle. I remember my father going off to war and my mom crying as she loaded us up to go stay with grandmaw while she went to work. I remember the neighbors scared to open the door when they knew it was the war department. I remember FDR and how he brought us through the war (even telling us what we wanted to hear before he was elected and doing just the opposite after he was elected) and I remember my world falling apart when my brother died in a war I knew nothing about. I remember so much but I don’t remember anyone before telling me I am a racist. I don’t remember anyone claiming that the Constitution means nothing because it is so old and doesn’t give young black people a chance. The President is not what I wanted. He came to power because of votes. I don’t remember anyone saying that we needed to count the votes again. Everyone had him elected before and after the election (especially the news media). I pray. I pray that my God will hear the cries and help us in this hour. But wait, I seem to remember there is a God; something I am afraid that our President and many others have long forgotten.
