The debate over using the atomic bomb over Hiroshima and Nagasaki along with President Obama’s disingenuous and disgusting May 27th speech, one made even more repulsive as it was given on the foreign soil of a former enemy on the eve of the annual event when America pauses to honor its military dead, are both perfect examples of how steeped in anti-Americanism the progressive movement has become.

For them to win, they must promote the idea that America is not only wrong, it is evil.

Let’s just think about who delivered these words:

“Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”

And also these:

“And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.”

It was the venerated patron saint of the progressive movement, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. I can scarcely imagine such words of moral clarity and recognition of God’s power issuing forth from Obama, Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

As a true doctrinaire progressive, President Obama cast the war the same way as all progressives do – never a contest between good and evil but a conflict between the have’s and the have-not’s:

“The world war that reached its brutal end in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was fought among the wealthiest and most powerful of nations. Their civilizations had given the world great cities and magnificent art. Their thinkers had advanced ideas of justice and harmony and truth. And yet the war grew out of the same base instinct for domination or conquest that had caused conflicts among the simplest tribes, an old pattern amplified by new capabilities and without new constraints.”

The fact that Obama classified the dropping of the atomic bombs in his speech as “evil,” established the logical extension that the initiator of said act must also be evil; therefore, the atomic bomb is evil, America dropped it, so America is evil.

If progressives had a moral compass as opposed to a dedication to moral equivalency, they would understand that before using these weapons the world saw an unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March, the Death Railway (Burma), the Rape of Nanking, the wholesale massacres of doctors, nurses and patients in hospitals on Bangka Island and in Hong Kong, the exploitation of captured Korean and Chinese women as “comfort” girls, officially documented cannibalism, and the horror of Imperial Army Unit 731, a special “unit” that conducted medical experiments on thousands of POWs and civilians – including the vivisection of a live subject (as reported in the NY Times in 1995). They would also know that based on the 100,000 Japanese casualties and 50,000 casualties for the Allies while taking Okinawa Island, the US war planners estimated estimated that “conquering Japan would cost 1.7 to 4 million American casualties, including 400,000–800,000 fatalities, and five to ten million Japanese fatalities.”

The fact remains that for progressives, evil does not exist because they are prepared to do evil in the quest to achieve their goals. Evil is merely a point on a sliding scale of situational ethics to be ranked in conjunction with the important to them of a given goal. The only true evils they see are the love of country, individual achievement, the protection of liberty and opposition to their collectivist goals.

America deserves better than this.
