Adam Kinzinger, Ben Sasse, Mittens Romney, Larry Hogan, and the shy NeverTrumpers in the GOP are deserting President Trump. The media predictably breaks out the “baseless charges” and “without evidence” charges and confidently pronounces any challenge to the vote counting by the GOP as “false”.
Wow. A veritable parade of garden slugs…
Thanks guys. Big help. Good to know the ones who are ready to surrender before the fight even begins. Yes, it is hard and distasteful to challenge our voting system – but the GOP has been “going along to get along” since the dead rose from Chicago cemeteries to push Kennedy ahead to a victory over Nixon in the 1960 election.
Just one problem with your self righteousness, though.
You claim we can have faith in vote tallies being controlled by Democrats who have been trying to 1) keep Trump from taking office, 2) get Trump out of office for four years now, using the most heinous methods possible and 3) openly claiming before the counting started that Trump would never win their state “when ALL the votes are counted.”
“By any means necessary”, right? Remember them telling you that?
News flash, dimwits. They were not kidding.
As Floyd Ferris told Hank Rearden: “You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against—then you’ll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We’re after power and we mean it.”
Given the lax attitude toward our vote security and verification, the electoral process is probably the most corruptible of all constitutional processes. After the past four years, if you believe these Democrats won’t do anything to defeat a President they hate, you are an idiot and not fit to serve in elected office.
You take to Twitter to demand that the President present evidence. Are you not suspicious why votes keep being “found” and those votes always favor Democrats? Are you not curious why down-ballot GOP candidates did well but a GOP president did less so? Are you not suspicious that Biden’s leads are being created out of mail-in ballots that are far less verifiable than in-person votes?
Well, kids – color me suspicious. And I’m not the only one.
Sure, there are some explanations for those possibilities, but those are based on supposition.
And therein lies the problem.
The assertion that no fraud is happening is just as unfalsifiable as the assertion it is. Well, that is not exactly true – there are far more indications that chicanery is about than not. Are we not supposed to be suspicious about the counting of our votes and whether they are being invalidated by counterfeit ballots or ballots that were received with a lack of provenance and/or after the deadlines had passed?
Again, color me curious.
We may not win this election and unfortunately, the Democrats WILL get away with it. “Count EVERY vote” sounds a lot better to the weak minded than “Count every LEGAL vote”. The former sounds egalitarian (even though it invites fraud), the latter sounds harsh (even though it only reflects the law). Even if we can’t prove they exist or that they can’t get their vote in before a deadline, we wouldn’t want to disenfranchise anyone, would we?
For the preservation of our Republic and the electoral process on which it stands, we would be far better served to assume there is corruption than there is not – and act accordingly. Remember the words of James Madison in Federalist #51:
“If Men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and the next place, oblige it to control itself.”
There is a way to end this.
- Congress should pass a constitutional amendment to make election day a national holiday and the states should ratify it.
- People should be required to vote in person, with picture ID, at a designated polling place.
- Polls will be open for 24 hours, opening at 12:01 AM and closing at 12:00 midnight in the time zone in which they are located.
- The only remote/delayed voting that should be allowed are duly requested absentee ballots or in the case of documented infirmity or sickness. All non-first person votes must be received by the 12:00 PM poll close.
- Votes should be shipped to a secure counting facility each hour by secure transport and tallied immediately upon receipt under the eyes of poll watchers from each interested party.
- Information on vote tallies should be embargoed for 24 hours after the final poll closing in Hawaii.
No more going along to get along. We may well lose 2020 but the fight begins here and now.
